If I'm going to be addicted to something, at least it's Vitamin C

emergen-c
My friends, I have a serious addiction. I gave up cigarettes almost two years ago. I finally quit chewing that nasty Nicorette gum to get over the cigarettes. I am gently weaning myself off the patch. (It's a long process, but worth it!)

No, no. I am not addicted to nicotine -- anymore, that is. I am addicted to vitamin C.

You know what Emergen-C is, right? It's that somewhat expensive powdered vitamin and mineral super-boost that you add to water (somewhat like Airborne) and drink. The thing is, it's not like I go through true withdrawal symptoms like getting jittery or twitching if I don't have my usual fix of Emergen-C three times a day. It's just that, well, for some reason, I can't stop drinking it. Most people drink it when they are sick, or when they can feel illnes coming on. I drink it everyday. In fact, I don't even "drink" the powder dissolved in the prescribed 8 oz of water. I add a tiny amount of water, stir it up, and shoot it. I am addicted to it, and I have to take it like a shot because it actually does taste pretty horrible. Then again, for a lot of people, this is considered "medicine."

I suppose there are worse things I could be drinking morning, noon, and night, that are far worse than a raspberry flavored fizzy vitamin booster!

What are you addicted to that you eat/drink it at least three times a day?! Come on. Don't make me feel like the only weirdo.

I started on sugary, milky drinks from Dunkin' Donuts (there was one on the corner of the block of my high school), moved on to Starbucks' less sweet lattes and varied roasts, and now I brew my own so that I can get just the right flavor. I easily drink eight cups a day, especially when I'm at school (less when at work, because it's just not very good coffee). For the summer, it's all about iced coffee, but whether iced or hot, it's gotta be strong.

The cause of my stone was likely too much vitamin C. Thought I'm not sure if this would affect someone who doesn't have the propensity for stones like I apparently do.

If you don't like the way it tastes and you aren't truly addicted, why do you still drink it? An overload of certain vitamins can be just as damaging as a deficiency; it may be time to cut back.

and as for emergen-c, i used to be addicted( we got it free or highly discounted when i worked at natures) and i had at least three a day. but i was the opposite. i'd put one packet in a 24 oz bottle of water. and drink it during the day. and 3000 mg of vit. c is not really that high...... especially if your not having intestinal issues... awake brand effervescent wholefood multi vit. are good too. same idea, but green. yummy

Caffeine in the form of coffee or black tea. Actually my main addiction is the hormone/enzyme buzz I get from my tai chi workout. Who needs heroin or meth or coke when you can get the real thing just by proper breathing.

I LOVE Cherry Coke, but I don't drink it very often because I can think of yummy food that I could eat for those 300 calories in a large one. ;)

I drink abut 1 a day when I buy a case, or one occasionaly when Sam's doesn't have the cases in stock, but given unlimited access I would probably drink about 6 a day, lol. I know I'd never have a sip of water or soda ever again. I guess it's the caffeine, which I know isnt the BEST thing for me, but it's just so delicious!
