Bacon Chocolate Bar

We interrupt our regular posting to announce that the mad, dangerous, lovely chocolatiers of Vosges Haute Chocolat have seen fit to bestow upon the world a bacon candy bar.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Said bar consists of applewood smoked bacon, alder smoked salt, deep milk chocolate, and the contents of every fever dream I've had since young girlhood.

The Bacon Exotic Candy Bar is currently sold out on the Vosges website, but I, for one fully intend to press my nose up against my monitor until they're back in stock.

The bacon is exceptionally strong and smokey, which would normally overwhelm most chocolate, but the smoked salt unifies the two. It's more of a savory bar than you'd expect, and extremely bold, but the richness of the chocolate holds up well.

The only real criticism I have is that the bacon bits are extremely hard and sharp, which makes the push-it-up-against-your-palate-let-it-melt experience more than just a bit perilous.

If you grew up eating Hershey bars, then maybe this is "real" chocolate to you. I predict the likes of Vosges and a number of others will be gone by the way side in just a few years.
If AOL is going to write about chocolatiers maybe they should consider trying a company that not only makes great FRESH chocolate, but a company that has used AOL almost since it's inseption.

I heard about bacon chocolate when Nigella Lawson was on Rachael Rae's show....

No reason to pay top dollar plus shipping for Vosges. I cooked some delicious bacon, then covered it with Valronha, and even used Ghirardelli once. It's fantastic!
