If you had asked me ten years ago whether I was a Diet Pepsi drinker or a Diet Coke drinker, I would have said Diet Pepsi without hesitation. I just liked Pepsi better (people who tell you that there isn't a difference between the two are either crazy or don't drink soda -- or maybe too much).
However, a few years ago, I noticed my local supermarket was always out of Diet Pepsi and I was forced to buy Diet Coke. Somehow, I got used to it and I've been drinking it exclusively now for a few years. But last month? I decided to buy Diet Pepsi again, and now I'm back to drinking that. Sorry to cheat on you, Diet Pepsi.
This is just a really tedious way to say Happy 25th Anniversary Diet Coke! It was unveiled on July 29, 1982 and is now the #1 diet beverage in the world.
(Oh, that headline. I think that was one of the slogans for Diet Coke in the '80s. Am I remembering that correctly?)

Never thought diet soadas were healthy for you. Rather have unsweeten tea if I had to go that route.

I hate Diet Pepsi, not because of the flavor but because of the carbonation... or lack of. It seems like they've developed a specific window of time that the average person drinks a soda and put just enough carbonation in there to last that long. Go a minute over and the soda is flat. Diet coke, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Jolt, whatever, seems to last the correct amount of time while Diet Pepsi's life cycle once the tab has been cracked is about 1/3 in comparison to the others.

Eh, I never could get past the weird metallic aftertaste in ANY diet pop. I'd rather drink none at all than drink diet, but I love Coke, so I'll have one with lunch once a week or so. Coke, no Pepsi. I feel Coke has more of a "bite" to it, and I like that.
I get my caffeine from strong, black coffee, so I don't even notice the amount of caffeine in Coke.

Lolz. Might as well drink the real stuff? Like I need the calories. As for how bad the diet stuff is for you, well, how do you know it's so bad? Have some reliable study to cite? It's been studied to death, and if the results magically change, I'll feel less safe drinking diet coke. Plastic coating? Maybe it's the acid in the drink. Makes it taste tangy. It's not like your stomach can't handle the acid. As for ant poison, wow, some chemical is bad for ants. Bet if you had a whole can of that chemical you'd die. Bet if you had an all oreo diet you'd die. Doesn't mean oreos kill you.

I have a feeling it's the most popular drink is because Coke has built itself a monopoly. As a diabetic who can't drink regular sodas, Diet Coke is frequently the only choice.
Personally, here in Texas, we drink Dr. Pepper, and yes, the Diet Dr. Pepper is just as good as the original.

I recently started drinking diet soda in a foolish attempt to act more healthy, and I gotta say: diet coke and pepsi taste the same to me. Same metallic aftertaste, same lack of bite, same diet-ness. About the only difference is, coke stays carbonated longer.

Mountain Dew fanatic here, but I'm pretty sure it's what made me diabetic-- Diet Mt. Dew is AWFUL. I've always thought that ALL diet drinks need to lessen the ratio of sweetness since artificial sweetners are strong and have a unique (awful) aftertaste as it is. The only thing worse than hot, flat soda is DIET, hot, flat soda. I agree that Diet Dr. Pepper is superior in taste. Best diet soda of all time..? FRESCA!

Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi are dinosaurs from a bygone era. If you want good tasting diet colas, try Diet Pepsi Max, Pepsi One, Coke Zero, Cherry Coke Zero, or Vanilla Coke Zero.

You might as well drink the real stuff. As a long long long long time Coke drinker that has recently stopped drinking any sodas (and continue to struggle to work at it - it's getting better with time), you're kidding yourself on some subconsious level into think that It's better for you. Sodas do havoc to your system, but you probably already know this. Get out while you can! Ever wonder why there is a plastic coat inside that metal can of soda you're drinking?

I've always been a Pepsi guy. Coke is just way too carbonated - nasty stuff. I made the switch to diet some years ago when Pepsi came out with Diet Pepsi Lemon, the lemon killed the nasty aftertaste until I got used to drinking diet. Now, regular Pepsi tastes strange :-)

Diet soda is kind of an oxymoron to me...if you're dieting, you don't drink soda. Not only are you leaching calcium from your bones, but there are better no-calorie things to drink w/o Aspartame, people! But if you have to drink soda, drink the real deal, and make it organic (http://www.organic-nature-news.com/organic-soda.html). Try one - they're delicious!

I LOVE Diet Coke. I love most varieties of diet soda but Diet Coke is definitely one of my favorites! In response to some of the comments that aspartame is bad for you, there are numerous scientific studies that prove aspartame is completely safe for the general population. I think there's just a lot of misinformation on the Internet about aspartame that unduly harms consumers.
