Diana Krall really loves her wine

If I were a famous musician who went on tour a lot, I'm not quite sure what special demands I'd have. I think I'd want a TV in my dressing room and maybe a few snacks and drinks for me and my friends, but I can't really think of anything outrageous. Remember when Van Halen demanded no brown M&Ms?

Now take a look at what Diana Krall wants. This is a wine list that would make the Gallos jealous. This isn't what she has in her wine cellar; this is what she wants in her dressing room when she's on tour in North America. Obviously, she doesn't want all of them, it's just a list of wines she'll accept. There's Clos Pegase Cabernet Sauvignon, Falesco from Italy, D'Arenberg Shirz "The Laughing Magpipe," Landmark Chardonnay (2001, 2002, and 2003) and a ton more.

I think she makes a mistake though by saying "Any from Ravenswood" and "Any from Ridge." If I had to get this wine I'd probably just stick with those because they're general and easier to get, heh.

The reason was, that since they had a big stage-show with loads of really heavy equipment, they wanted to make sure that everything was up to their demands in regards to the safety on stage.
And since the demand for "only brown M&Ms" was buried deep in the contract, when they saw a bowl full of only brown M&Ms in their dressing room, at least they'd know that the contract had been thorougly read. Which also meant they had seen all the safetyrequirements for the stage. If not, well, then they had a bone to pick with the venue.

That's the story at least :) ... but yeah, many of the things you hear today is quite outrageous.

Van Halen almost caused a riot by refusing to play a show somewhere in Colorado back in the 80s. They refused because of the M&Ms, but it ended up being a good thing: wherever this concert was (the University of Colorado, I think), they had just installed one of those new "rubbery" floors in the basketball arena (where the concert was taking place). They didn't read VH's contract, and the weight restrictions were (ironically) listed somewhere near where the thing about "no brown M&Ms" was.

It turns out that the weight of VH's set damaged the new floor. Had the Uni read the contract, they would have known that it would have, but they just didn't. The Uni then had the nerve to try to sue VH to fix it. It was this lawsuit that made the whole "M&Ms thing" public knowledge. For some reason, it then morphed into a "prima donna rock star request" thing.

There were like, 6 pages, and that's really obnoxious. I'm a big fan of Tori Amos and she's a lot more known than that, and she pays a crew to set stuff up like that and brings in her own catering and generally doesn't act like a diva like the rest of these performers.

Obviously, the people who responded know little of her and have no appreciation for musical genius. Furthermore,as a former caterer to the stars, her choices for wine are considerate, not demanding.
