Five is the New Black... Five gum that is

Five gum by Wrigley, billing itself as "the new black," is a new gum appearing this summer in three flavors. Rain (spearmint), Cobalt (peppermint), and Flare (cinnamon). It comes in a nifty, modern package that is all sleek black with the number five off to the right giving off orange-red flares, green rain, or blue cobalt radiation. The packaging is designed towards teens and young adults and has etching that supposedly glows under black light. There are 15 pieces per pack and it is sugarfree. Their marketing slogan is "5 is the new black..." When I asked for some information they said, " Wrigley introduces a new twist on an old favorite. 5 -- the chicest thing to happen to stick gum in 110 years -- will be this summer's must-have accessory."

I received some samples and tried the three flavors and was pleasantly surprised. I am not a big gum chewer, I may have a piece after a meal if I can't brush my teeth, but it gets tossed after a minute or so. I actually chewed this gum for a quite a bit longer than usual and enjoyed the flavor more than most other gums. The Flare has a bit of heat to the cinnamon flavor, while the Cobalt and Rain have a cooling sensation to their mint tastes. The package is a bit sturdier than most and so protects the nicely soft gum when carried around. Expect to see it on the market soon.

OMG Wrigley will go broke by making a gum with long lasting flavor! Nobody will have to buy as much and then they will not have to make so much and then people will be layed of from the factories - OMG, WHO came up with this crazy, crazy idea?

I don't know why exactly I like it that way better. I also like the flavors they used to have, like Black Cat - I think it's called - the licorice flavored one, and the Clove one and the retro flavors. They are difficult to find, but I love them! I always load up when I find a place that sells them. I still like hard Juicy Fruit... Is that really weird or what?

Over a half of obese persons tested who said they were allergic to artificial sweetners in a blind study were not. Sure they may either experience headaches or imagine headaches, but in reality it is just their fat cells stimulating their obese brains, complaining about not getting another dose of fat builders. Stick to sugar. You want to keep up your strength.

Several years back I tried some gums which were truly tasty and novel...clove, nutmeg, and ginger flavored gums with a delightfully spicy flavor distinct from the usual cinnaoman ....citrus Gatorgum which actually helped replenish electrolytes and quench thirst, ...and an ice cream flavored brand which had the tastes of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream, and also orange and raspberry sherbet flavors. If any flavors are to hit the market, I would love to see these old favorites reintroduced.

8-13-2007 @11:51AM Foxydwarf said... I love cinnamon gum and Flare is the best ever. It seems to have a bit of Hot pepper type of heat, but not so much that it is painful. The flavor lasts a long time. it has a tendancy to get hard before it loses flavor, but that may be because the flavor lasts so long.

Any one who likes gum will LOVE flare. I cant speak for the minty flavors.

As for the coffee gum. I thought it tasted like fake cola flavor. ok, but NOT coffee.

I have to buy a pack for me and my daughter, because she likes to sneak a piece when I am not looking. (lol) The box is sexy, and it comes in handy since I like to keep a pack of gum in the arm rest of all of my vehicles, so it keeps it from melting or getting stale. Please don't ever take this off of the market. The only downfall is sharing my gum with others.
