July is National Ice Cream Month

Quick: who designated July as National Ice Cream Month?

If you thought some ice cream council or dairy association or Ben or Jerry, you're wrong. It was actually President Ronald Reagan, who did it in 1984.

So, to celebrate, after the jump are a bunch of ice cream-related links: recipes, the history of ice cream, and more.

BHG.com has a lot of ice cream recipes, as do MakeIceCream.com, lovetoknow.com, and SouthernFood.about.com.

Wikipedia has a detailed history of ice cream. And WhatsCookingAmerica.com has the history of the ice cream cone.

The Starbucks site has a lot of recipes you can make with their ice creams.

There are some great ice cream blogs out there too, including Turkey Hill's Ice Cream Journal, Ice Cream Ireland, and several sites listed at InstaBlogs. There's even one on how to make every type of vegan ice cream.

In the news, a city councilor in Boston doesn't like ice cream truck music. Maybe he can call this guy.

And let's not forget that ice cream quiz we talked about earlier this week.
