Hershey's Kisses

July 7th, 2007is the 100th anniversary of the Hershey's Kiss. What a perfect reason for a sweet celebration!

Having spent numerous childhood vacations in Hershey, PA, it was inevitable that I'd develop a lifelong affection for their signature confection -- the Hershey's Kiss. I say "inevitable" because the whole town is in-your-face choco-centric. From the cocoa-scented air wafting from the factory to the Kiss-shaped streetlights and maddeningly catchy Great American Chocolate Tour theme song, there's no escape from the candy behemoth. And if you can't beat 'em, you might as well Kiss 'em.

But why wouldn't you want to? Hershey's Kisses are the perfect size and shape for a quick, fun, anytime chocolate fix. And heck -- who doesn't cherish the chance to offer a Kiss to a loved one, or someone they hope will soon be one?

If it was you that was losing your job or someone in your family you would look at it like it was more than just candy, too. Sure most all of us buy things that is not made in the US out of necessity, not because we want to but we don't have to have candy. I rather have everything made in ths US and when it comes to food I am definitely trying to make sure I do NOT buy any human or pet foods that are made outside the US or that has any ingredients in them from outside the US. As for everyrthing else unless it is something I have to have I will look for US made only!

There must be another way to make their current location work. Perhaps the guys at the top could take a pay cut and live like the majority of the population does instead of making us suffer so they can line their pockets. Stay in America. Don't take jobs needed here away. I will no longer buy Hershey products if produced outside of USA.

Maybe if they didn't sell their products in the U.S. for such high prices, we Americans wouldn't have to demand such high salaries to live in the most wonderful country in the world.

I guess I will have to find U.S. substitutes for Hershey's products.

But all companies need to realize that what they are doing will be the fall of the USA. Hershey is a "chocolate icon: here. This is just awful and the poor people that have worked there.

I for one will not buy another Hershey product, I've noticed that their syrup is watery lately anyway. Probably added water so they could make more money by destroying a good product. Everyone I talk to says they will not trust buying Hershey products if they move any part of it to Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter. They are cutting their own throat in the long run, unless there intention is to go bankrupt eventually!! Greed is killing this country. What a shame!!

It is sad to imagine that Hershey must move their company to Mexico and pay those employees a pittance just so they can import the product back into our own country and sell it for 2 or more times the cost! I agree with most of the comments-Don't Buy It! And, to Nancy Lee Reynolds-I lived in Europe and tasted wonderful chocolate in Switzerland, Germany, France and London. But you don't see them moving their production facilities out of their respective countries. Only the USA. NAFTA be darned! Made in the USA should still mean that! Look what's happend to China. Lead paint with your chocolate anyone?

Yes, perhaps many of us at one time or another have made the choice to purchase products that have been made outside of this great country. Some of those purchases have been of our own choosing some have because we have failed to support our own USA based markets causing them to be driven out of our homeland. We have out priced, out sourced and out done ourselves right our of the competitive business world. Like many companies that have moved out of the US, Hershey has forgotten that the American taxpayer has supported them, made them prosper and have been a launching pad for their success for over a century. I truly hope that the money you save in your move will overcome the loss of business you will sustain by the American people. Fare well Hershey and tell your stock holders to enjoy their short lived profits. I fear that you have not anticipated the disappointment of the American people.

To be honest, in reading about the 100th anniversary, I was all geared up to go buy a bag of the famed kisses. They seem, now, somehow tainted. I will opt for a smaller, still AMERICAN company instead.
