And while I am more inclined to dress up and go out for ice cream, there are times when I have this desire to make it at home. Since I have a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, I'm just waiting for the Ice Cream Maker attachment, but for everyone else (who might actually have room on their countertops for yet another kitchen appliances), there are a number of ice cream makers that do it all in one. Slate's Stephen Metcalf reviewed seven ice cream makers and rated them first to worst, with a simple Rival Treat Shoppe doing a decent job, to the $700 Musso. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can only really do one batch without refreezing the bowl. And honestly, the last thing I need is a double batch of home-made icecream. ;)

It never gets the ice cream cold enough, resulting in a really "foamy", fluffy almost-hard-ice cream-but-not-really texture. And freezes/packs terribly. Although...whew, $700, a bit expensive.
