Clever piece today at The Onion AV Club, The Hater's Guide To Summer. It's sort of a quick list of things to do this summer, aimed towards people who hate the season (like me!). One of the products they talk about is Fla-Vor-Ice, and I'm glad someone else has finally said that they don't taste that great.
My roommate is addicted to the things, and they certainly are cheap, but the taste? Yikes. Give me Popsicles or Fudgsicles or Italian Ice any day over these synthetic frozen rainbow sticks of blah.
What is your frozen confection of choice during the hot months?

the hawaiian punch flavored ice pops (similar to fla-vor-ice) are tasty, as are otter pops if you can find either of those.
otherwise, strawbery daiquiri for me. thanks.

Favorite confection of choice for the hot summer months? Bellinis! Cold, peachy, with a splash of booze. Can it get any better?
Too bad I can't freeze them into popsicles!

Rocket/ Bomb pops are the best! I agree with your assessment of Fla-vor-Ice-- the plastic taste is stronger than the fruit; much like Sunny D and such.

I once used Fla-Var-Ice to make margarita's when we ran out of mix. Lemon Lime is the best.

My favorite is my mom's receipe, so I'll try and get this right.
You start with an empty ice cream pail. You add a can of frozen lemonaide (or maybe two) and half the water asked for. You fill it the rest of the way with booze and freeze it. Slushes. You can get very drunk on a summer's day this way.

Your pictures always come out so wonderfully! Mine has this blinding flash which is unfailingly unflattering for any subject.

I second the motion for rocket pops...those things are delicious.
Does anyone remember the fruit flavored Jello pops? [ not fudgesicles! ] Those were pretty much the best popsicles I've ever had, and I can't find a replacement. Boohoo.

Water Ice. It's a Philly thing that was new to me when I got here, but I learned to love it quickly. Also, I'll second #9's Snickers Ice-Cream Bars

Honestly, I dig the Fla-Vor-Ice. I mean, it's not the most amazing treat in the world, but at a buck a box and 25 calories a tube it's a pretty smart choice...
