Sausage for everyone?

Porky PigYou've probably heard the story of the 11 year-old boy who killed a 10 foot, 1000 pound pig. It's been causing a stir in blogland.

Take a look at the official site. The picture of the kid leaning on the pig doesn't quite look right. What's that under his left elbow, his knee? If it's his knee, then he must be further back or on top of something. And the picture on the far right, of the four guys standing behind it. It doesn't look right at all. The pig looks a lot smaller. It's still a big pig, of course (though was it wild?). People are wondering.

They've made a ton of sausage out of the pig, and they're still workign on mounting it. I don't know if anyone is saying there wasn't a pig killed, it just doesn't look quite as big as reported.

Update: The kid's dad explains the photos on his site, and there's a new photo of the pig's skull on the main page.

Update 2: Alabama officials say the hunt was legal.

I live in the deep south and I've seen some big porkers before, but that one takes the cake. I guess if you haven't seen how big some of those wild pigs can get on average, you'd find it hard to believe, but it looks legit to me.

It's probably NOT as massive as the pictures make it seem - pictures are not always reliable, even when you're telling the truth - but it still looks damn huge.

As for the ethics of well, I don't eat meat, but if they actually eat the animal they kill I'm actually ok (read not thrilled) with it. At least its not just "for sport" which is pretty sick. I also think a lot of people would be vegetarian if they had to kill the meat they eat.

Not exactly sporty. However, I live in Georgia, and I'm well aware of how potentially dangerous hunting wild hogs tends to be. Kid's got spunk for bringing this one down, and I'm glad that it's being consumed rather than being shot just for kicks and giggles. (Which unfortunately tends to be all the rage with a lot of the locals around here.)

I think the whole episode is sad and pathetic and real hunters and outdoorsmen should be outraged.

A pig that size would most likely succeed. Would I consider this dangerous like a wild boar? No, far from it. Do not underestimate its danger though. Elk have been known to kill people. Yeah that's right. They're just really big deer right? Yeah about the same way a lion is a really big house cat. You know the best way to piss off a one of the larger breed domestic pigs? Breathe.
