I'm not a big coffee fan. Love the flavor, but it upsets my stomach. But I do have some iced coffee drinks during the summer, as long as there is some chocolate or mocha element in it. I like the Starbucks Frappuccino in the glass bottles (Mocha flavor), and I'm a fan of Nestle's Iced Java syrup.
This recipe has me a bit confused, though maybe it's just because I'm not a coffee guy. It's from allrecipes.com and it's a recipe for iced coffee. Do you really need a blender to make iced coffee? Or is this literally for iced coffee, a thicker drink, and not the cold coffee drink we're used to?
Iced Coffee
1/2 cup warm water
2 tsp instant coffee granules
1 tray ice cubes
1/2 (5 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, divided
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
In a small bowl, stir together the water and instant coffee. In a blender, combine ice cubes, coffee mixture, milk, sweetened condensed milk and chocolate syrup. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

I appreciate all the recipies and ideas on how to make iced coffee at home. Is milk a must in ice coffee? If so, how much? Do folks add a little instant coffee for more of a coffee kick?

A) Most Common Sense Method:
-1. Brew coffee.
-2. Chill in refrigerator.
B) Quick Method
-1. Brew coffee with DOUBLE the amount of grounds.
-2. Add enough ice to double the amount of liquid when melted.
*This is the way many chains make their iced coffee and the extra grounds is to prevent the coffee from being watered down by melted ice.
C) Cold Press Method
-1. Use coffee ground on a FRENCH PRESS coarseness.
-2. Add cold filtered water directly to the grounds in a container and stir.
*Ratio should be equal to a half pound for each gallon of the mixture. It should equal a gallon with both the grounds and the water combined. You aren't actually adding a gallon of water.
-3. Steep overnight at room temperature for 12-16 hours.
-4. Skim grounds from the top of the liquid.
-5. Strain through a metal/gold filter.
-6. Chill in refrigerator.
*This is also a method some chains use and is obviously a very complex and time consuming method, but it is totally worth it once you taste it...amazing stuff really. This exact recipe is used for a major coffee chain by the way.
Serving: No matter which of the preceding methods you use, serve by pouring over ice and adding cream and sugar to taste, enjoy!

A good iced coffee is going to start with a good bean properly/freshly roasted and medium ground. The grounds should be allowed to steep for up to a day then stored in a refrigerator in an air tight container. When properly prepared, it will make a glass of coffee that will change the way you drink coffee. If it doesn't make the best coffee you've had, you've done something wrong or your coffee isn't good for cold dripping. All coffees don't necessarily make good cold coffee. Try another coffee blend.
