Well, maybe once in a great while, but don't make it a daily thing, OK?
HungryGirl.com has the list of the five summer drinks that will destroy your diet. Sometimes we don't think of the massive amount of calories and/or sugar and/or fat that are in those seductive cold drinks. For example, Krispy Kreme's Mocha Dream Chiller has 670 calories, 28 grams of fat, and 58 grams of sugar (that's for the 12 oz). Dunkin Donuts' Vanilla Bean Coolatta has 440 calories, 17 grams of fat, and 69 grams of sugar.
The other drinks on the list are from Starbucks, Fatburger, and Dairy Queen.

Nothing refreshes in hot weather like *unsweetened* iced tea served with a lemon wedge and big ol' sprig of fresh mint. The overly-sweet, fat- and calorie-laden beverages at venues such as Krispy Kreme and Starbucks don't appeal to me in the least; and besides, if I want to splurge, I'll make an ice cream soda, root beer float or milkshake here at home.

Many "manufactured" fruit drinks sweeten with fructose...some people are allergic and will get sick. Other ingredients with long names are also suspect - chemicals we are not used to can really make you ill. Watch the sodium levels (salt) and also potassium....can damage kidneys. I drink only iced tea and iced green tea with lemon. Ice water will help you lose weight...the body has to burn calories to heat up the icewater for digestion. neat! Jane

If your trying to stay on your diet and you're going to Fatburger, I think you may have bigger problems than the beverages that they offer.

If you live somewhere where you have city water you have no idea how much the water companies go through to make it safe for drinking. I like the iced tea with no suger but whats wrong with just tap water. the botled water is not regulated at all like city water. Forget all those colored or sweetened drinks just drink tap water with a little ice and it's good for you also.

MRG and Jery- Obviously there are a lot of chemicals/sweeteners/etc, that could be the culprite. My boyfriend would always get ill after drinking certain sodas/energy drinks, discovering later that he had an allergy to the dye Red40 (who knew?!).
MRG, You should check with your doctor and maybe have them do some allergy testing on your girl. In the meantime, try to stick with natural juices only!

I would rather boiled dirty sock water than *unsweetened* tea. Back in my Southern restaurant days we used to make 9 gallons of sweet tea, and one gallon of the other kind. We would run out of sweet, but never the unsweet. I still make a glass with turbinado sugar sometimes in the afternoon.
I generally drink water, but some drinks fall more into the desert category than refreshement. Wonder where Belgian ale falls into this continium?

I found out recently that Sonic is offering sugar free flavored iced teas. It's nice to see companies like this providing some balance to their usual high fat, high sugar menus.

MRG regarding the Capri Sun, is that you Michelle? This is Tony. MRG in MD? There may be nothing wrong with the drink, but then again maybe there is. It's probably just an ingredient that is upsetting your daughters stomach.

Yuck. To the person who's putting nasty "mint" in their summer drinks...where are you from , mars? There's nothing nastier than people who ruin perfectly good lemonade or ice tea with Mint. Sweet drinks mixed with mint? Am i entering a kissing contest that I need my mouth to smell toothpaste fresh after i drink (mint) ice tea or (mint) lemonade? I recently ordered 5 homemade lemonade drinks from a local resturant thinking they'd make lemonade for normal people on earth...boy was i surprised . I took 2 sips and it was filled with mint. I called up the place and said ..i thought lemonade was supposed to be sweet . They said , yes , it is sweet. Then i'm like , how in the hell could this crap be sweet and ur putting freakin mint in it ? Needless to say i've never ordered drinks from there again..and anytime i try a new place out that has "homemade lemonade" I ask if they put nasty mouthwash mint in it first .

Any time you eat or drink something and get sick, use common sense and DISCONTINUE using it! There is something very wrong with someone consuming something repeatedly and getting sick every time....

Absolutely agree with many of the previously posted notes, but have a question. I'm almost 45, and, in my 30's, had 4 small strokes. They were due to stress, but it manifested into a physical problem (i.e., BP meds, etc.). I HAVE HAD NO CAFFEINE SINCE 1991!!!!! At home, my husband and I make caffeine-free SWEETENED iced tea (no lemon for me, either, thank you!!), but why can I go to a restaurant, wanting no extra calories from my drink, and due to not being allowed any caffeine, have to resort to ice water? I drink water all day long, for several reasons, but sometimes, it'd be nice to go & get a light dinner, with a caffeine-free sweetened iced tea!!! (Here's to all of you who can have it regular!! I sure miss it!)

MRG- I get very sick and nauseaus when I drink or eat anything with Splenda (sucralose) in it. It is everywhere these days. My husband and I used to drink Propel water until we started developing migraines and feeling ill. We narrowed it down to the sucralose. Good luck figuring it out. Chances are it is some chemical additive.

You all need to look up on Web MD the dangers of Splenda....ie sucralose. I have started using a all natural product called Stevia.

Get rid of anything with high fructose in it. Use Stevia. Drink water.
