Even though the official start of summer isn't until some time in mid-June, we all know that summertime really kicks off with Memorial Day weekend -- and for lots of us, that means lounging poolside for the first time this year, or hitting the beach. Time to get our bodies ready for swimsuits.
Lady Thrills has put together a list of the Top 10 Foods that Help Burn Fat. Granted, you can't just eat a teaspoon of cayenne pepper then sit around on the chaise lounge all day. Getting into shape means eating well overall and exercising. But a little kick along the way from these ten things can't hurt!
- Cayenne Pepper
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Citrus Fruits
- Apples and Berries
- Soybeans
- Bananas
- Essential Fatty Acids
- Garlic
- Dairy Products

Try buying cheap cuts of meat and root vegetables (carrots, potatoes, onions)and stew or braise for a few hours. This will supply several meals cheaply, and provide a healthier meal.

Try turning off the TV, computer, or video games for awhile and MOVE! Healthy foods too expensive you say? Nonsense! Compare the prices of fruits and veggies, poultry and fish with processed pre-prepared meals and there's little difference. The difference is, you have to actually spend time preparing meals instead of ripping open a box and using your microwave instead of the stove so you can get to the couch faster.

I have a hard time walking or exercising, but I have lost 12 pounds in a month by changing a few things. Cut the amount you eat in half, portion control is very important, drink more water, and eat 2 or 3 apples a day. The water and apples help curb your appetite. I also cut my milk drinking down to one glass a day or less, and use skim milk, it's really not that bad. I also added just a little more walking to my routine even though it's hard for me. I have not felt deprived in fact I feel better. Losing weight is hard, but if we don't try, we will feel worse.

And yes, if we all could afford to eat the healthy stuff then we wouldn't be whining about who's fat and who's not. Oh and let's not forget that not only women get fat but, heads up guys- you do too. So leave us alone already and grow up and look to your own life.

Changing bad habits makes a bigger difference- sautee things in water, use cooking spray instead of oil, and don't butter anything. Don't keep candy in the house. But healthy regular oatmeal, not the flavored kinds-LOADED with sugar. Same for most cereals. Bake, don't fry. I get salad dressing on the side and dip it- never using even 1/8th of the serving.
Most of the items on this list are good things to eat, whether they burn fat (they DON'T- trust me, I got an A in medical biochemistry) or not. I don't have the seething hatred for dairy that others here do but I agree that it seems out of place on the list. Eating any of this stuff instead of (not in addition to) burgers and fries will cause weight loss, and an accompanying increase in exercise will make that weight loss much more pronounced. Growth hormone stimulates lipolysis (liberation of triglycerides from adipocytes), and is released from somatotrophs in the anterior pituitary in response to 1)exercise and 2)lean protein ingestion. Ingesting carbohydrates causes insulin release which puts fat INTO your adipocytes and strongly inhibits lipolysis. It is a well understood process with a very simple summary, that someone stated earlier: you must burn more calories than you ingest to lose weight. Period. The sooner people come to terms with that, the sooner our obesity epidemic will start to wane.
And to the poor lady with all the dogs- Give your dogs to someone who will take care of them, because judging from your first statement you don't love them enough. Rice and beans are cheap and healthy- get brown rice. Feeding your kids mac& cheese from a box and hotdogs - devoid of nutrition, loaded with sodium- is child abuse. Grow your own produce, visit roadside stands- cheap. If you live in a city, there is usually still a farmer's market type thing at least weekly. You shouldn't complain about being poor while apparently owning a computer and paying for internet, feeding 5 dogs you don't care for anyway, and refusing to cook a whole chicken because it "grosses you out". If you can't overcome that to feed your kids you shouldn't have kids. Eating healthy isn't expensive if you do some research and learn how to shop and how to stretch it- start by taking advice offered to you.

I hear a lot of complaining.
First--get rid of the animals, obviously if your kids do not get fruits and veggies, and healthy food choices, the dogs need to go to someone who can afford them. Your kids and their dietary needs should be met BEFORE you worry about having pets. If you must have a pet, there are cheaper alternatives to dogs.
Second--I have three children myself. It is very convenient to take the easy way out and heat up a can of Spaghetti O's. But who are we kidding, it is not cheaper. You can buy tomato paste and sauce, add seasonings and you have homemade sauce. Noodles--very cheap, add a pound of hamburger if you wish and you have homemade better tasting actual Spaghetti. For about $6 I have dinner for five that lasts at least two nights!! For $6 you can get six cans of Spaghetti o's, will this feed you and your children for 2 nights? No way.
Third--people are giving you lots of pointers and helpful advice, you come back with another long winded complaint about your kids eating a lot and blah blah blah. It is not a matter of having too many kids, as people have been stretching the almighty dollar for years. I've known actual struggling familes and I do not recall Spaghetti O's being a staple in their diets, maybe top ramen(?) ten to fifteen cents each. The truth is if you wanted to you could make better choices and get your kids the fruits and veggies they need. Frozen veggies (all types) are on sale most of the time for $1-$1.50 a 12- 16 oz. bag. Even if this only lasts for one meal (they last us three meals), isn't the value of getting to eat them far better than giving them empty calories filled with preservatives and who knows what else. Picking the convenient foods may seem cheaper, but I think it is the convenience and ease with which they are prepared that gives them the edge.
It is all about choices and if you are struggling you should give your kids more quality than quantity.

We went from 2000 gallons of milk produced per cow per year about 65 yrs ago to more than 50,000 galons per cow produced now per year with the help of science -drugs. The calf will gain close to 300 lbs the first year, not necessary for human babies. We do NOT get the calcium benefit even though it is in there in large quantities.

Consider this though, (and I'm raising 5 kids myself), sometimes you have to get rid of the mindset on what makes a meal. My kids have had a supper of carrots and dressing for dinner. If they don't like what I prepare and for good reason, their only option is no dinner of a fruit or veggie and they always go for the fruit and veggies. Bananas make a great dinner as well. We may eat a bag of popcorn later. Many times mac and cheese and other boxed foods only drive up your sugar leaving you hungry an hour later any way. Then you need more food on hand. Fruits and veggies can be more filling and satisfing. Great way to lose weight.

5-28-2007 @2:25AM Sue said... Mia, thank you! You've given some realistic food ideas. I am about to turn 60 (yikes!) and have been raising a 5 yr old and 7 yr old since they were babies. I work full time and have little energy. I tried to be a "super" mom at first. I've found healthy suppers can be eggs scrambled w/cheese, unbreaded chunks of fresh chicken cooked quickly in a George Forman grill, Mrs Paul's popcorn fish, canned chicken mixed w/barbeque sauce and on a whole wheat bun or rolled in a multi-grain tortilla, any Progressive brand soup (the can is large enough for all 3 of us),(the chicken enchilada type mixed w/a can of chicken over rice is delish), frozen or fresh turkey burgers in that grill again, ground turkey mixed with a can of spaghetti sauce over rice or any type pasta, etc. Try mixing the spaghetti sauce, ground turkey while raw, and a cup and a half of raw rice, plus a little extra water. by the time the rice is cooked, the meat will be as well. For an extra health punch mash up a can of carrots into the sauce and about a tablespoon or 2 of ground cinnamon. I add carrots to all types of red-sauce pasta I make. I also add cinnamon to all red-sauce dishes such as chili, etc. With any of the above, we have a bag of frozen broccoli cooked in the microwave and mixed with real cheese, (Add cheese after cooking and it helps cool it down.), or raw baby carrots, or a can of green beans drained and mixed with a tiny bit of butter and a good amount of ground garlic, or a can of aspargus (my kids like it unheated), frozen corn on the cob (put in a dish with a little water and microwave), or any veggies y'all like. If the kids are "starving" I cut an orange or two into eights and they eat it right out of the skin while I prepare the rest. The kids are learning to help prepare meals and this makes them eager to eat their creations. To go to a drive-thru is once or twice a month. We get the healthiest things possible. Many times we go thru and get a small salad each to supplement a sandwich-type meal at home. They always drink milk. At home we drink milk or water. Faucet water is regulated much more than bottled water and our area has great clear, wonderful tasting water. I cannot afford all the heavily advertized juices. Most are NOT health beneficial. We do buy and drink V-8 sometimes. I find that if I "just love" a food then the kids do, also. Mine devour salads and broccoli or sweet potatoes. I either take fresh sweet potatoes and wrap in waxed paper and microwave, or use un-adorned canned. No extra sugar or spices needed for great taste and nutrition. We sometimes eat fresh baked (in the micrwave) potatoes with only honey mustard on top. Sorry this is so long. We only have my income so we buy almost all store-brands. They're great!

To the person complaining about the cost of food so high and barley able to feed your 3 children..why do you own 5 dogs? and then threaten to starve them...if need be. it makes no sense. it's worth every penny for healthier food cause you are what you eat and you only live once so you need to treat your body to the best to feel the best. it's worth it.
