It isn't really fair to call this review a "taste test," because I have basically resigned to the fact that any energy drink, no matter who makes it, tastes horrible. Even Diet Coke, which could be considered an energy drink if you take into account the caffeine, is an energy drink, and the taste is starting to wear on me. A lot. That's what two to three cans of soda a day will do to you. It wears you down.
G Pure Energy comes from Norwegian Ole Sandberg, the maker of high end water, Voss. If you didnt' know that intellectually, you'd certainly be able to sense it from the bottle's design. The bottle, like Voss' bottle, is made of glass, and is topped with the signature large silver screw-on top. This bottle, however, has a curve, which could be interepreted and sexy and gorgeous, or maybe a little scary -- you know, like someone drank a little too much G Pure Energy and gripped the bottle too hard. (And that with the bottle's even being glass!)
Most energy drinks come in cans that are opaque. It makes sense, since the color of energy drinks, anywhere from a dirty yellow tinge to a weak, sickly version of a dark cola, is never an overly appetizing color. G Pure Energy is a very light yellowish green, and it was odd to see that color come through in the glass bottle, when clear glass and plastic are almost always filled with crystal clear water. It almost looked dirty.
G Pure Energy comes in both regular and Zero-Calorie versions. I tried the Zero-Calorie, since most of the other energy drinks I've tried have been sugar-free.
The drink is highly carbonated. When I unscrewed the top, it fizzed to the top with a danger of spilling over, and that was just fron picking the bottle up from the refrigerator shelf. I can't even imagine the damage that it would do to a white dress in a club atmosphere (where a lot of energy drinks are consumed), or running around town.
According to the website for G Pure Energy, the drink is "a unique blend of the tart flavor of Lime and the unique citrus flavor of Lulo (a Central and South American fruit with a subtle orange flavor), with only natural, healthy ingredients." It is supposed to have a "smooth, clear taste."
They weren't lying! Okay, so I have no idea about the natural ingredients, but it definitely has the "clearest" taste of all the energy drinks I've ever tried. The citrus fragrance is more pronounced than I would have expected, but it certainly didn't taste like I was drinking chemicals that would light me up like a glowstick from the inside. I was abe to finish the bottle without scrunching up my face like I do when I have Red Bull, Monster, or RockStar.
As for the energy? Let's just say that I might be awake until next Monday.

This stuff doesn't have any calories, but neither does black coffee, and most people feel more energetic after drinking a cup or two.

Needless to say I turned into a talking head and could not shut up for at least an hour - all after about 1/4 of a bottle. The under 20s at my event thought it was great - it certainly did ramp up the energy - haven't seen it in the stores yet, but I am hoarding a bottle for "someday when I really need it".
