As all faithful Slashfood readers surely know by now it's National Burger Month. Presumably the nation implied in the title is the good old U.S. of A. Nevertheless I couldn't resist making Japan's MOS Burger todays Burger of the Day. The MOS Burger, not to be confused with the Motz Burger, is Japan's answer to the chili burger. Sadly, I've never had one, but according to Jeff over at Avenue A, the burger is awe-inspiring. It's served up with a thin sweet chili that lies atop a coating of mayo. MOS, which stands for Mountain Ocean Sun, makes everything fresh. They must be doing something right, MOS is Japan's second-largest fast-food chain after McDonald's.

I just got back from Japan and had a couple of these while I was there. Good stuff, though the chili sauce is eerily reminiscent of Chef Boyardee.

Hey! Thanks for linking to my blog up there :) (I'm the Jeff mentioned in the post.)
But yeah, the MOS Burger is quite fantastic. Like everything Japanese, it's a lot lighter than its American counterpart (chili burger). Some people may not like that, but I do - it's a chili burger you don't feel guilty after eating.
Just don't make the mistake of ordering a MOS Burger teriyaki burger - you'll regret it.

Ooooh, MOS Burger! There was a MOS Burger around the corner from where I lived when I was teaching English in Akita. I was so smitten with the Spicy Chili Dog, I never tried the Burger version. I'm salivating just thinking about the Chili Dog, though. YUM!

Joe- I had a MOS burger when I was in Japan and thought it was a pretty tasty fast food burger. It was the only 'Americanized' food I had while I was in Asia.

The Spicy Mos Burger, which included pickled jalapenos (or something similar) was my go-to burger when I lived in Osaka. Every so often I lapse into a spicy mos burger-related reverie and wake up in a puddle of drool.

OMG MOS BURGER ROCKS!
the actualy MOS burger is not my favorite though. i love their croquette burgers (fried potato croquette patty in a burger bun), or their signature rice burgers! delicious shredded beef/ chicken between two rice patties!! yummo

the teriyaki burger at mos burger is one of the most amazing thing ever. i'm also a fan of the unagi burger that has rice patties for "buns". get them to the US!
