Late Night Snacks: Ritz Nachos

RitzLast night I made what I think is one of the top 5 bad food decisions in my life. I went to bed but woke up around 2:30am, incredibly hungry and craving nachos and something cheesy. So I stumbled out of bed and realized that I didn't have any nacho chips and no salsa. What did I do? Why, I used Ritz Crackers instead, of course!

I placed a bunch of Ritz crackers on the plate and covered them with Sargento Nacho and Taco Shredded Cheese and slices of Velveeta (yeah). I popped them in the microwave for about 40 seconds (please note I was lazy and it was 2:30 in the morning so the oven was out of the question), and chomped on them.

How were they? Um...not that great. The microwave made the crackers more mushy than crunchy, and there's just something about a nacho chip/cheese combo that a Ritz cracker/cheese combo cannot duplicate. Ritz are fine for topping with various foods, but I wouldn't suggest making nachos with them.

Wow, Ritz nachos in the middle of the night. Am I pregnant or something?

Speaking of which, slashfood eds, unless I missed it,some sort of cheese soup seems past its prime for a write up/recipe. Although it's becoming summer rapidly so heavy soups aren't so great for lunch and such...I have an awesome ghetto recipe using cheddar, parm, mozzerella, and red pepper/hot sauce, but I use campbell's canned tomato as a base for it so it's not quite "from scratch"... Although I guess that's why I refer to it as ghetto cheese soup. MAssive tastiness, though.

As to the post, one of the singularly worst things I have ever eaten were some "nachos" made with Wheat Thins, cheez whiz, and taco bell sauce packets. Thankfully since those college days we have omved far past that and our budgets allow better experimental creations.

Little bit of sun-dried tomato, on top of ...
Moderate lump of cream cheese, on top of ...
Ritz cracker.

Very tasty!
