Dr. Perricone's Top 10 Superfoods

A lot has been said over the past few years about "superfoods" -- certain foods that reportedly contribute greatly toward your overall health. Now, Dr. Perricone, an M.D. probably best known for his guest appearances on such television shows as 'Oprah,' the 'Today Show' and 'Larry King Live,' has weighed in with his top 10 choices. I found it interesting because even though there are some standards there, his list does include a few items that I haven't necessarily seen referred to as "superfoods" before.

Though each food has different possible benefits, it is believed that consuming these may help to regulate metabolism and burn body fat, lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, protect against heart disease and act as an aid to your digestive health. As always though, check that with your own doctor first. Perricone actually calls Wild Alaskan Salmon the "King of Superfoods" (which I suppose makes this a top 11 list instead), followed by the following 10:
  • Açai Berry -- A high energy berry from the Amazon
  • The Allium Family -- Garlic, onions, shallots, leeks and chives
  • Barley
  • Green foods including blue green algae, barley grass and wheat grass
  • Buckwheat seed -- More protein than rice or wheat
  • Beans and lentils -- High in fiber
  • Hot peppers -- Anti-inflammatory analgesic
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Sprouts
  • Yogurt or kefir

If you buy the amount of fruit daily to take, as recommended, you will spend more than you do on MonaVie. Do a little research on the Açai fruit and you will see that the natives in the Brazilian rainforest have used this in their diet for centuries and they don't show aging, they are healthy. They also don't have dental caries according to one report I read. I have taken it for about 10 months now and let me assure you, it does what they say. One week, or even one month will not give a person much change. But, it is truly a good nutritioinal product. Nothing offers a cure for any disease but good nutrition may help us to ward off diseases. It has tremendous anti-inflammatory properties and I can attest that the restless let syndrome, which I had, has completely subsided so I, for one will use it as long as I can. I became a distributor to get the reduced price, but I don't sell any, I just use it daily and love it. Please try a product for a time before giving it the "thumbs down". Scams abound and if MonaVie is a scam, it sure is a good scam because I don't want to ever be without it along with millions of other users.

I didn't get "sucked in"; I made a diliberate decision to try it and loved it soon after I started. You can call it what you please, that's why we live in this great country, but don't take the word of just one person who had a bad experience because those who don't give it a chance are the ones who speak against it and how can they judge something in just a few days? Food products don't work that way and an educated person knows better!

My opinion.

It truly does what they say and I don't want to be without it. Like you said, cheaper isn't always better. If a person were to purchase the amount of fruit that is recommended daily, he/she would spend signaficantly more than they would on MonaVie. Their process is patented because it is unique. They freeze-dry the berry in Brazil then ship it to the U.S. for processing into the juice. By this manner, the potency (for lack of a better word) is preserved 100% whereas the other companies that use Açai do not have the 100% potency according to reports that I read. I also like the fact that MonaVie pays the natives a very good salary and this is their incentive to preserve the Açai palms in the rainforest. Their income is significantly higher (10 times what they can earn locally) than what they could make from local employers. MonaVie is a great company and for those who want to market, it is one of the best .... I don't market, but if I decided this is for me, I'll stay with MonaVie because they are so fair in their business. You are you own private business. Many compare it to a "pyramid"... big deal. We all live in a pyramid......life is a pyramid. There are always those above you that make more money than you unless you own the company. That is such crap. If you can make the money, why not? I happen to have a full time job and hope to retire in a year or so, but I just might become a MonaVier at that point and work in the pyramid along with millions of others who are doing pretty darned well.

Like you said ( in essence ) ; don't bad-mouth a product that you haven't tried for some length of time. Our bodies need to be nourished and Mona Vie has some of the best and most exotic fruits that are packed with nutrition. I like the saying, "give the body what it needs and it will heal itself".....how true it is!

I am 55 years old survivor of severe neck brake about 30 years ago (had 3rd and 5th vertibrate broken) that left me half-paralized. You can guess that I do have major helth problems (including pain and difficulty of sleeping). Since I stared taking MonaVie (4oz a day), I gave up my sleeping pills completely and started sleeping like a baby! I also have more energy and am able to be a much more active person than I had been over last 30 years.
I am so conviced in helth benefits of MonaVie that I signed up as independent distributor of this product. I want everyone to discover the wonders of this prodct and enjoy the life with it. Please visit my sites: www.mymonavie.com/overbaugh or www.thegreatproduct.com/overbaugh

The Mona Vie (cannot find proof of this score) is significantly exaggerated from what I currently know to be true. Looked on company website and they do not have the label or information printed.

What is important is the flavanoid content, ORAC scores can be exaggerated.

However, Brunswick labs has measured unprocessed cocoa as being #1 and acai berry as #2.

Good for you Barbara for pointing to the Xocai company website and not self promoting like the other blogs. If someone wants to know more they can e-mail us.

Larry King loves this product. To learn more about it go to www.mxi.myvoffice.com/17793. It's high energy, no caffiene, appetite supressant, loweres bad cholesterol and raises the good, lowers blood pressure, reduces the swelling due to arthritis, and helps the body regulate insulin levels. That's to name only a few of the benefits of this cocoa and berry combined.
