Starbucks introduces Dulce de Leche

I stopped at my local Starbucks yesterday and found out that they have released their latest flavor of cappuccino/frappuccino/latte goodness - Dulce de Leche. I ordered the venti latte and received 5 squirts of flavoring, whipped cream, plus a sprinkled topping that reminded me of crumbled, sweetened pie crust, though I was out of the shop before I could ask them to confirm what it was.

As we showed you last week, Dulce de Leche is sweetened condensed milk that has literally been cooked in the can over low heat, producing a rich, milky, caramel toffee-like flavor. If you are so inclined you can make your own at home and save the $5 a cup, but for those who can't be bothered - the Starbucks version is absolutely delicious.

Hmmm. Out here in California, that flavor has been out for a considerable period of time. Perhaps 6 months or so? This is a flavor they also offer in a Sugar Free Variety. The flavor is too sweet for me. If I happen to stop into a SB for a flavored beverage, I always request "half the number of the pumps."

Cinnamon Dolce has been out for awhile in both regular & sugar-free but the Dulce does not have a sugar-free syrup has just been released in my area.

This drinks resemblance to the great taste of Dulce de Leche is fleeting at best. Too sweet for me, not enough caramel. I won't try it again.

I haven't tried it yet, it sounds like just another spin on the Caramel Macchiatto (hehe) And how are those Pineapple-Mango empanadas? Are they any good?

The empanada sucks. It's like a jacked up pop tart. The banana dulce coffee cake is the best though. No doubt.

The dulce de leche is absolutely delicious. Because I enjoy it so much and am a frequent visitor to our local Starbucks; I wonder how many calories and carbs I'm consuming in a grande size cup? Unfortunately the Starbuck stores in our city has been out of the dulce de leche mix for about 2 weeks now. I can't wait until they get their new shipment in for the mixture thatI enjoy so much!

gotta try that. I've made Dulce de Leche at home since our spanish teacher showed us how in 8th grade. good stuff. I also noticed that Hershey's now makes a DdL flavored syrup.
