Absolut Vodka has released their latest fruit-flavored libation, Absolut Pears. I'm planning to try it soon, so I thought I'd get warmed up for Happy Hour today by taking a look at a few of their recommended cocktails. Both recipes are from the Absolut Drinks website, where they have hundreds of self-created and user-submitted recipes for all of their flavored vodkas. Without further ado:
Pears Garden
4 parts Absolut Pears
2 parts lemon juice
2 parts simple syrup
1 part black currant liqueur
2 parts cranberry juice
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into chilled martini glass.
Absolut Pears Sizzle
3 parts Absolut Pears
1 part Lime Juice
Lemon-lime Soda
Pear
Mint leaves
Fresh ginger
Sugar
Add ginger and fresh pears to a shaker glass and muddle with about a teaspoon of sugar into a paste (vary amount of ginger to how spicy guest likes it), then add Absolut Pears and lemon juice before shaking hard with ice, strain into glass. Top with soda and garnish with a sprig of mint and a slice of fresh pear.

Yes, all should be warned. Pears?!. More like a pineapple-like ester I once made in a seventh-grade chemistry experiment, with a worse aftertaste.
Anyone tried La Poire by Grey Goose? After burning my tongue on one chemical accident, I am reluctant to repeat the experience.

I love pears, so I grabbed a small bottle as soon as I saw it. Nasty. Tastes like very unripe pears and industrial waste. Pears have a very complex and subtle group of flavors, and Absolute picked out the worst of them and pickled them in grain alcohol. Bitter and puckery.

Heed these warnings! I tried it anyway and now I'm sorry!! The only way I can describe it is that it tastes like aqua net hairspary. Just don't.

These reviews are true. Absolut Pears is hideously flavored, and in all honesty, it does have a VERY chemical-like taste to it.
Grey Goose La Poire smells and tastes wonderful. It's the type of vodka that, to this point, is somewhat of a hidden secret, as not many bars have it - but once they get it, La Poire will skyrocket!

You are all Sheep! Didn't you see 20/20? Six Grey Goose drinkers picked Goose last in a blind taste test. Said just what you all are saying about Absolut. The last two blind tests I've done Absolut and level came in number one or two. Each time Goose came in last under Smirnof and Gilby's.

I love pears - love them! Tried this - YUCK! Came to this site to find something to make it tolerable after trying a few things that did not work. I think I'll just throw it out... It was the worst drink I've had in a very long time. :-(
