Absolut Vodka has released their latest fruit-flavored libation, Absolut Pears. I'm planning to try it soon, so I thought I'd get warmed up for Happy Hour today by taking a look at a few of their recommended cocktails. Both recipes are from the Absolut Drinks website, where they have hundreds of self-created and user-submitted recipes for all of their flavored vodkas. Without further ado:
Pears Garden
4 parts Absolut Pears
2 parts lemon juice
2 parts simple syrup
1 part black currant liqueur
2 parts cranberry juice
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into chilled martini glass.
Absolut Pears Sizzle
3 parts Absolut Pears
1 part Lime Juice
Lemon-lime Soda
Pear
Mint leaves
Fresh ginger
Sugar
Add ginger and fresh pears to a shaker glass and muddle with about a teaspoon of sugar into a paste (vary amount of ginger to how spicy guest likes it), then add Absolut Pears and lemon juice before shaking hard with ice, strain into glass. Top with soda and garnish with a sprig of mint and a slice of fresh pear.

Pears have a very complex and subtle group of flavors, and Absolute picked out the worst of them and pickled them in grain alcohol. Bitter and puckery.

Anyone tried La Poire by Grey Goose? After burning my tongue on one chemical accident, I am reluctant to repeat the experience.

Grey Goose La Poire smells and tastes wonderful. It's the type of vodka that, to this point, is somewhat of a hidden secret, as not many bars have it - but once they get it, La Poire will skyrocket!

The last two blind tests I've done Absolut and level came in number one or two. Each time Goose came in last under Smirnof and Gilby's.
