McDonald's is going upscale

upscale mcdonald'sThree weeks ago in Saratoga Springs, Utah, a new concept in McDonald's restaurants opened -- "upscale."

That's right. McDonald's is testing a prototype of fresh image with a restaurant that has a cafe feel. Rather than the familiar, but gaudy I guess, Golden Arches, there's a short modern sign out front. The interior, which will feature a sage green color palette, has upholstered booths, a stone fireplace and lounge chairs.

Lounge chairs? For what? Lounging with a cup of ... Diet Coke?

Well duh, you need comfortable chairs because some of the McDonald's restaurants will have plasma screens or Wi-Fi! I am happy to see that McDonald's is changing its image, but I'm not quite sure that making McDonald's into an upscale restaurant will do anything more than make me feel even worse for eating a Big Mac and French fries in a nice atmosphere. If I'm going ghetto with fast food, I don't pay much attention to the decor anyway. Heck, I doubt I'm even inside the restaurant; I'm driving through.

I would rather eat the box they come in. They are worse than bad, they are horrible.

It's called taking personal responsibility for your own actions. If one can not administer self-control when they are sitting down to eat, then that's their problem--no one elses! It's called GLUTTONY and that is up to the individual to stop it. Why should the rest of us have to do without just because someone else chooses not to remove their rear from the table and say "Enough."?

And I think this new "cafe style" McDonald's is trying out is a GREAT idea! It's a great idea because it gives people a choice as to whether or not they want to sit down and relax with their Big Mac and fry (and yes there IS such a thing as relaxing eating "fast food"), or if you want to just order and run, it doesn't stop those people from doing that either. It gives us choices which is GREAT. Go McDonalds! I hope it takes off---I'll even eat there MORE if it does!

I used to pick up the occasional burger for my kids, but after a recent visit and how FILTHY the place was, I will no longer go to McDonald's no matter HOW "upscale" they are trying to be. I'd rather go to a place that might look a bit dated, but have CLEAN counters and use good food handling techniques. I reported the incident to McDonald's and of course, received no response. The health department said that the restaurant could clean at the end of the day (the END of the DAY???). Besides the filth, my son found half of a strawberry and a peanut in his chocolate shake...I took it back and told them the they were extremely lucky he wasn't allergic.

The casual menu restaurants like Applebee's have done this upscale concept for a decade now. So McDonald's needed to move forward, and I liked that photo of the new cafe feel.

And I got news for the guys who came up with the new image for McDonald's; sitting by a nice stone fireplace in a comfy lounge chair, watching a wide screen plasma TV while eating chicken McNuggets and french fries out of cardboard boxes and using a plastic straw to drink soda out of paper cup is not anywhere near "upscale" dining in a "trendy" local hangout. I blame Morgan Spurlock and "Starbuck's" for McD's effort to "re-image".
Now why not let "Outback Steakhouse", "TGI Friday's" and other places like that try to front the "trendy hangout" image and just be what you've always been; a good fast food joint that serves the most awesome fries on the planet?

The two McDonalds in this area are the most filthy, disgusting places you have ever seen. They totally reek of filth. I don't know who owns them, if they are in the pockets of the inspectors or what, but they are totally NASTY!!

Takes away the very essence of the term, "fast food" Besides, weren't they proud to be one of the first to coin the phrase? What happened to tradition in this country of ours anyway! Has it become a dirty word over dinner at the table. Or, excuse me, the plasma television? Yah, this will promote that ol' family value of togetherness that everyone is always yapping about to family bonding. I think they should stick to what they do best. Burning patrons with hot coffee, promoting Monopoly contest that obviously never produce million dollar winners, serving the mystery meat, and making popular movies about super-sizing things!

Not for nothing but what MCDonald's and ALL Fast food restaurants need to do is CLEAN up their acts!I was in Florida recently and at a local McDonald's ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. When I got back to my friends place to eat it, a tomato fell out of the sandwich and I lifted the bun to place it back in.Where I had bitten the chicken it was TOTALLY RED/PINK inside.I was like "Is this chicken corden bleu?"My friend told me "no" they don't make that.We then realized that the Chicken was TOTALLY UNCOOKED and RAW.Can you say Samonella?
I had to call the Florida Department of Health and they were supposedly going to make a report.I never heard anything back from them.I felt nauseated the next day and had the runs and felt hot,and thankfully it got better.Though I had severe panick attacks about food poisoning, and was very worried about eating raw chicken.
I will NEVER eat at ANY MCDonald's and a lawyer asked me if I wanted to sue, which I have not decided yet.I also noticed at many Florida Fast food places workers are NOT required to wear plastic gloves when handling food, like they do in California,Ny,and other states.
What is it with Florida's Department of Health? That is so UNSANITARY and GROSS that they do not require that.I cannlt believe in this modern age, that the Florida Dept.Of Health is so behind the times when it cpmes to food safety. It is inexcusable.

Your spelling and grammar are pathetic, and publishing a 300+ word screed in capital letters without enough punctuation for an intelligent paragraph will earn you a place on McDonalds' corporate pinup board under the "Joke of the Day" header.

Ours has a decent indoor play area and a GREAT outdoor one. Of course I don't think it's the food establishments places to provide excercise for the kids, that's the PARENTS JOB! I have no problem taking my kids to the park everyday, out for bike rides, getting them involved in seasonal sports.

I wish they would work on improving this...like getting someone who knows how to talk into a mike and knows how to speak english and knows how to get an order right. I don't even think about going inside a McD's. and my comment applies to all of them, McD, BK, Taco Bell...etc. KFC...whoever else has drive thru service.

They thought it was safe to eat the greasy food, but they were wrong and now their DEAD, ALL DEAD! My mother weighed 750 lbs when she died. 750 LBS, THAT IS FAT! And it was all because of the Mcdonalds she ate. And whoever said that the moms are eating their sandwiches naked, that is DISGUSTING! You people are what is wrong with this country.
