About a month ago, New York magazine asked four members of the fashion community to keep track of what they ate during the go-go-go chaos known as Fashion Week. The magazine followed two models, a fashion show producer, and a fashion magazine editor and itt was surprising to see the diets of the models. Even more interesting was the fact that the magazine editor ate the least!
Since I also write for one of our sister blogs, Styledash, I went to LA's Fashion Week, which wrapped up at the end of last week, and since I'm a foodist at heart, I thought it would be fun to do the same thing to see what my diet would be like (good? bad? ugly?) during five days of fashionable frenzy: fashion shows, after parties, then blogging into the night.
Think a fashion magazine editor doesn't eat much during Fashion Week? How about a food blogger...
DAY ONE
7:15 AM - Two cups of coffee and half a croissant while blogging at my desk.
11:15 AM - Three hard-boiled eggs sprinkled with soy sauce and sriracha (yes, it's delicious) before heading off to opening day.
4:00 PM - Prunes and dried apricots that I brought with me in my purse and bottled water.
9:45 PM - Greek salad I made at home (one of my favorite salads, so I try to keep the ingredients on hand all the time) and 1½ glasses of Syrah while blogging at my desk.

DAY TWO
7:30 AM - Cup of coffee and a piece of nicotine gum because I quit smoking over a year ago, but I already feel stressed.
8:45 AM - Coffee in my to-go cup on the way to the office. I think I finished it before I got out of the driveway.
12:30 PM - Caesar salad from cafe up the street with...Yes! Another cup of coffee!
4:00 PM - Enviga and a handful of Good n Plenty (I {heart} black licorice). Kinda wish I had Tab Energy instead, though.
7:30 PM - Glass of Syrah (same bottle from the night before) while getting ready for party. Dinner? Who has time for dinner when I still have to put on lip gloss?
10:00 PM - 1 AM - Two Citron/soda and bottle of Voss Water that cost a ridiculous $8.

DAY THREE
9:45 AM - Coffee after waking up way too late after party the night before, plus a handful of vitamins, realizing that I probably won't be eating very well for the rest of the week.
10:25 AM - Barely caught the tail end of McDonald's breakfast drive-thru. Egg McMuffin on the way to the office to help with a mild hangover.
11:15 AM - Diet Coke at my desk.
4:00 PM - About three bites of a Kashi granola bar that tasted like mulch. Had to toss the rest.
9:45 PM - Glass of red wine, then a handful of Salt & Vinegar Kettle Chips, which I immediately realized do not pair well with red wine at all. Put away the chips and had another glass of wine while blogging.

DAY FOUR
7:30 AM - Half a cup of coffee and vitamins.
9:45 AM - Handful of edamame, because that's all I have in my fridge now, and who has time to go to the market during Fashion Week?!?!
1:15 PM - Wolfed down Nicoise Salad from cafe up the street at desk before heading out with the rest of a can of sparkling water.
4:30 PM - Bottled water. No more Good n Plenty. Damn.
10:00 PM - Bowl of vegetable soup from a can (please see above re: grocery shopping during Fashion Week)

DAY FIVE
7:45 AM - Coffee (duh), and I think I remember this thing that I used to do called "cooking." Oh yeah! Scrambled eggs.
10:30 AM - Enviga in the car on the way to the office. This stuff is really horrible.
12:45 PM - Diet Coke and another Nicoise Salad because not only do I not have time to go to the grocery store, but I don't have the brain power to think creatively beyond what ate the day before.
10:00 PM - I am sure I had some bottled water and perhaps a half dozen pieces of Nicotine gum somewhere in the afternoon. I think I am getting sick, so I had a bowl of Chicken Soup from a can and glass of wine. At least I'm getting anti-oxidants.
Slashfoodies, I barely ate my way through LA Fashion Week and lived to tell about it. Thank Goodness it is over. And now back to my regularly scheduled eating...

Wow. So many things to say. But mostly...
Hard boiled eggs with soy sauce and sriracha? Really? Was this out of desperation or is this good. Is sounds oddly interesting.
And, as an aside, why has Slashfood slowed down so much lately?

Wow ... way to stay thin. Your diet is perfect for Fashion Week in that respect. Do you always eat your biggest meal mid day (which is smart), or is this an ususal routine for the week?

Hardboiled eggs with soy sauce and hot sauce! I have to admit that I use Tabasco instead of sriracha, but that's because I lack imagination. This must be like universal Asian comfort food or something, because my (Japanese) mom used to make it all the time for breakfast. Sometimes I try to make the yolks runnier and mash it all up in a bowl with buttery toast for dipping, but more often than not I end up with hard yolks because I forget to take them out in time. Still good, though.

while at Mercedes Fashion Week in LA i watched models eat cubes of cheese and brocolli, crackers and carrots backstage, i must say the Panini's served at the main tent were OK at 11 dollars, good thing there was plenty of water to drink and i must say the booze was unlimited

Hmmm... At least a few of these daily menus read more like what the average model eats during NY Fashion Week! Now that you've come out on the other end, I'd say recommend lots of water to flush out the sodium in store-bought soups and the bad-for-you quanities of good-for-you-ingredients in the Caesear salads! Glad to have you back!
