OK readers, I have a challenge for you. Do you dare accept it?
The other night I was watching an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show, the one where Rob and Laura accidentally hear their neighbors Jerry and Millie talking about them on Richie's toy intercom. It's one of my favorite episodes, and I've always wondered if the dip that is mentioned in the episode, Avocado and Peanut Butter, was a real dip that someone on the cast or crew had made or if it was completely made up. It sounds like an odd combination, but I've heard of odder recipes.
The only clues I have are that it's a dip (Buddy puts it on crackers) and the ingredients are avocado, peanut butter, and mustard. Don't forget the mustard! It's the vital ingredient, though Buddy seems to like it better without it. Not sure if there are any other ingredients - these are the only three mentioned.
So who wants to make it and report back here on how it tastes? We could start a new trend here: real recipes based on fake TV and movie recipes.

I'm assuming it would have to be creamy pb in order to even come close to being "dippable" ? maybe the natural kind so that the oil can help whip it all into a creamier format? Although I seriously doubt that buddy used natural pb... can't wait to hear if anyone tries it!
Also, I've done some tv inspired recipes, recently I posted one for Laverne 's Pepsi Milk and Grey's - Izzie's Cupcakes

But I've made raw/vegan chocolate mousses with avocados, cacao, carob (vitally important to mesh the flavors), coconut butter and almond extract, so I guess peanut butter isn't that odd.
I've also recently discovered that avocado and mustard are delicious together. In homemade sushi, a small stripe of both yellow and whole grain mustard in a vegetable roll with avocado, carrot, cucumber and scallions or a sort of German roll with shoyu marinated tempeh, sauerkraut, a bit of whole grain mustard and a LOT of yellow mustard, dipped in shoyu and wasabi are both scrumptious and slightly unusual. For quick sandwiches, a pita with some left over cooked tempeh, or tofurky slices, a few slices of salted avocado, lettuce, plenty of mustard, and maybe a few apple slices provides a perfect mixture of textures and flavors: savory tempeh(or tofurky); creamy, buttery avocado; tangy mustard; crisp, fresh lettuce; and sweet crunchy apples.
The biggest problem with this dip sounds like it might be too rich. I think the mustard would provide a good flavor burst(peanut butter and avocado are both sort of blandly fatty).
