A Pennyslvania eatery is on track to topple a Guinness record for the world's largest hamburger. Denny's Beer Barrel Pub cooked up a 123-pound behemoth this past weekend besting a record set by a New Jersey restaurant by 18 pounds. The Beer Barrel Main Event Charity Burger sells for a hefty $379 and serves about 100 people. Denny's used 80 pounds beef, 160 slices of cheese and a house-baked 30-pound bun, among other things to create the meaty monstrosity. It was cooked overnight in an oven for more than six hours.
No word yet on whether the creators of the gargantuan burger referred to today's Cookbook of the Day, for recipe ideas. My guess would be no.

Tomorrow there will be an "outraged" report from the CSPI over the calorie count and amount of fat in a single burger. Then there will be a post of the report here along with a handful of people agreeing there should be a law against these things to protect us foolish people from ourselves.

My Nephew and I were at Denny's that day. Drove from Cleveland Ohio to Clearfield Pa. I tried to attempt their 2lb "Pub Challenger" and my Nephew George went after the 1lb "Ground Pounder" we were both unsuccessful at finishing. Was an awesome day to witness and see this 123lb beauty ! Hope they win the record!

Last summer Ed Hess and a group cooked a cheeseburger that weighed over 200 lbs. It had 200+ pounds of ground beef, 15 lbs cheese, and a 4 foot dia. bun. It was cooked over an outdoor grille with fire wood. He says he is going to do it again this summer. I have all the pictures of proof! It fed about 200 people, and had lots left. Want to see it? This is for real! David Smith
