Remember when you went to a fast food restaurant and all you could order was deep fried fare, full-fat shakes, and items smothered in sauce or cheese? Those days are definitely becoming a distant memory. In an effort to appeal to the health-conscious consumer, Fatburger has added two healthier food choices to their permanent menu - the Veggieburger, a meatless Boca soy patty, served up on a whole wheat bun, and the Fat Salad Wedge - lettuce wedge topped with diced bacon, tomatoes and choice of dressing. They also offer a Turkeyburger and fresh marinated chicken sandwich, both of which have been on their regular menu for some time now. They aren't stopping there though. Fatburger has now joined the ranks of fast food restaurants working towards becoming trans fat-free. Since January 1st they have been switching over to a soy bean-based oil for their fried products, and expect the transition to be complete in all of their locations by the end April.

Also note that they've gone to the other end of the spectrum and introduced the Fat King. A half lb. artery clogger and the Triple King. A 1 1/2 lb. heart attack waiting to happen. In fact so few people apparently are able to eat it that if you do, you get a free t-shirt and a certificate of recognition for conquering the beast. Believe it or not my petite little wife took up the challenge and finished the triple king just to say she did it. It's been two days and she's still feels full. ;-)

It's not a ridiculous as it sounds at first. The name is meant to reference the old slang "fat" meaning awesome (since altered to "phat"), and the chain's theme matches the term's era... photos of classic R&B and Motown stars and a dynamite jukebox that I believe is put together by Rhino Records. In actuality, they're some of the least greasy chain burgers I've come across.

Are you joking? I, for the first time, expecting a impressive meal, was not only disappointed but disgusted with what I received! The experience at “Fatburger” was very displeasing. I received, for one, the wrong size burger; Two, the burger was over cooked (beef jerky has more red meat and juices in it); Thirdly, the meat is full of fat and fillers … it’s not 100% beef; and lastly, my wife and I waited over 15 minutes to receive a lousy burger. What we received was something less than what we could have gotten at McDonald’s or Burger King. I guess my mistake was going there with high expectations. To say the least, my wife and I left hungry. To top it (the experience) off, the “Fatburger” atmosphere was steely cold, bare, and uninviting; It felt like we were in a factory-style cafe. Bottom line, I’ll never dine there again. On a scale of “1″ (Poor taste) to “10″ (Excellent), I’ll rate it a 1. I’ll go to Burger King, Wendy’s, or Burger King for an equivalent experience and still get somewhat of my money’s worth!
