Larabar specializes in making healthy, delicious snack bars from a blend of fruits, nuts and spices. Their energy bars are completely unprocessed, uncooked, non GMA, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan and kosher - and despite their simple makeup (each has less than six ingredients) they taste great thanks to the natural sweetness of the high-quality ingredients that they use.
Last year, they added Lemon Bar and Cinnamon Roll to their lineup of bars, bringing the total number of bars in the line to ten for a few months, but the reaction was so positive that they just announced that another pair of new flavors are being launched on March 5th: Key Lime Pie and Pistachio. Hopefully, the Key Lime Pie will have the same bright, almost juicy flavor that the excellent Lemon Bar does.
The other recent addition to Larabar's offerings is the Jocalat line. Jocalat has evolved from the Maya bars that the company was offering last year and are a more candy-like product than the standard Larabars because they use fair trade certified organic chocolate in each one, in addition to their standard fruits and nuts. The bars are available in Chocolate, Chocolate Orange, Chocolate Coffee and Chocolate Mint (the coffee is my favorite) and each has just 190 calories, in addition to being entirely organic, high in fiber, protein, good fats and antioxidants.

I was very disappointed with the Maya line. At first I thought I got a bad bar because it tasted burnt and acrid. Then I had two more (one orange and one mint) and they were both similiarly bitter and tasting like burnt rubber. I asked the Lara folks when I saw them at the Fancy Food Show and they admitted that there was something wrong with the formulation. I suspect that the date paste they use as the binder on most of the bars is too wet for cacao nibs.
Anyway, the new Jocolat bars are awesome and I hope to see them in stores soon. (I've eaten my stash of sample sized bars from the show already.)

I don't understand raw foods diet people. The whole thing seems crazy to me. Heat is necessary to eat so many things, like potatoes. Silly health food addictions.
Luna bars taste ok but most bars IMO seem to be pretty poor nutricion wise. Full of fat and preservitives- might as well eat a snickers bar.

As for Luna bars, The Luna sunrise's are very good. To the above poster, I have to disagree: Luna bars are NOT full of preservatives nor are they heavy in fat. Luna bars are one of the few foods I can easily grab at a grocery store and eat with no fears (part of why I love Larabars and Luna is that they have no artificial flavors, dyes or preservatives. all of which I cannot eat.)

I tried a banana one (which I think is a risky first-taste move, given how most packaged banana stuff tastes fake) I guess I was right, because I hated it. Maybe I should try a different flavor? Although, the overwhelming date sticky sweet kinda killed it for me, too.

I do like Luna bars but I get tired of most packaged bars so I try to make my own, sometimes I use a mix from Matisse & Jack's which tastes like real food, and I also followed a recipe from the Food Network for energy bars once.

I had never tried their bars before, so I don't know if they have changed recipe/amounts, etc from the other commenters, but there is nothing bleh about these bars. I tried the Key Lime Pie, the Cherry Pie and the Cashew Cookie and thought they were fresh, just chewy enough to be a satisfying snack, and the flavors were spot on. Thank you Larabar!

You cant deny the ingredients are amazing. What bar only has 3-4 ingredients all of which are natural?! I decided to taste the other flavors. I still dont 'love' them but I think they are growing on me. I am not totally convinced but I am going to purchase some other flavors and give them a try. Just comparing the ingredients with my usual Luna bar is nearly convincing enough!!

I'll be using these bars this marathon training season. As a side note (but certainly important), the company responded quickly to my request; the email I received made me feel like these are really nice people. Good product + good customer relations = a winner.
