What is your favorite Valentine's Day treat?

Since we have been focusing on Valentine's Day for the past week or so, I asked a few friends and family members what their favorite treat of the season was. I was surprised to find out that almost everyone had a different answer. Those that are chocoholics didn't even hesitate - give them a box of chocolates and they have never been happier. Cookies were also a very popular answer. Some claimed that they love the conversation hearts, though they wouldn't think to buy them at any other time of the year. A number of people said they just liked anything that happened to be red, pink, or heart-shaped, even if it wasn't food. I think the best answer I received was: "Anything that just seems romantic, regardless of what it is. We need to have this holiday more than once a year."

My favorite treat by far are the little cinnamon candy hearts. I stock up in February and have them lying around in bowls for months afterwards. I like them so much in fact that I've tried crushing them up in icing to go on top of brownies (very good) and tossed a dozen or so into a cup of hot coffee in an attempt to give it a cinnamon flavor (not so good).

'negative' ones and eat them last.

I love it and can't get enough. Chocolates are always welcome and those little cinnamon hearts are a treat. I always seem to get at least one package of conversation hearts each year. But nothing beats that heart-shaped red velvet cake.

Ok, who's baking for me this year?

Nope, for me, I just like the fact that my boyfriend brings me a large deep dish mushroom and spinach pizza from Zachary's Pizza in Berkeley, California (takes 45 minutes from ordering one, to getting one, so there is a ritual in pre-ordering, even). He brings it to my house -- a one hour drive from his house -- we heat it and drink it with red wine.

This is romance, for the simple reason it's the first meal we ate together in my home. We had only met for a coffee a few times, and lunch once, just as friends. He came up one midweek after I'd been working all day, to go over some computer work we had, and he thought it would be kind to bring a casual dinner. A bottle of red wine and this pizza ... and I had no idea it was rather involved and couldn't just be picked up en route. It was divine tasting of course (makes Top Pizza lists all the time) and by the end of the evening, we were kissing, and have been ever since, and that was 7 years ago.

Keep your candy "Be Mine" hearts. I'll take the mushroom memories for 7 more years.
