What would a collection of SuperBowl dip recipes be without a little blue cheese, considering that it is held to be the gold standard of hot wing dips - excluding hot wing sauce itself, of course. Blue cheese (or bleu cheese, if you prefer) dip is made with a pungent, creamy cheese that cuts into the spiciness of hot wings by adding a new layer of flavor and a cooling sensation that dulls the heat of the chicken. The strongly flavored cheese, in most of these dips, is often combined with sour cream, mayonnaise or cream cheese, each of which contributes to the overall texture of the dip without bumping up the flavor to the point where it overpowers the hot wing itself.
This particular dip is a pretty standard recipe that you'll probably find in several different places. It calls for sour cream and mayonnaise in addition to the cheese, so "healthy" is not something that could be applied. You can always substitute low fat or nonfat sour cream/mayonnaise; using a good quality blue cheese will make up for any loss of flavor in either of those ingredients.
Easy Blue Cheese Dip
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2/3 cup crumbled blue cheese (about 3 ounces)
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar or white vinegar
pinch of cayenne pepper
Combine all ingredients and whizz in a food processor or whisk vigorously until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
This wing recipe is a quick and easy one that will produce some quick, tasty wings without requiring too much time in the kitchen and away from the game. It starts with bottled hot sauce (check out Hot Sauce Blog for some great reviews and suggestions) and is kicked up with horseradish and whiskey.
Crown Royal' s Whiskey Hot Wings
1 jar (16oz.) of hot sauce
2 tablespoons horseradish
20 chicken wings
1/4 cup of (Crown Royal) whiskey
salt and pepper, to taste
Wash chicken wings and pat dry. Cut off and discard chicken wing tips, then cut each wing in half at the joint (doubling the number of servable hot wings).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees, then turn on the broiler. Line a pan with aluminum foil and arrange chicken wings on the pan. Broil chicken wings about 6-8 inches from heat for 15 minutes, turning several times to ensure even cooking.
While the wings cook, combine hot sauce, horseradish and whiskey in a small saucepan, along with a bit of salt and pepper, to taste. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Brush both sides of the wings with sauce and then broil again from 10 to 15 minutes longer. Splash with more sauce and serve with blue cheese dip.

Very interesting recipe! It just so happens that I bought a bottle of Irish Whiskey this evening to make "Irish Hot Chocolate" with. Should have enough left over to try this for the big bowl tomorrow.
