Late night confessions that will get me banned

pizza boxIt's not exactly late night here on the West Coast, but since the other half the country is probably already tucked into bed, I will consider it "late night." In fact, if half the country is already alseep, I might feel better that I'm not "outing" myself to them. I have a confession to make, and it just might get me banned from the Internets -- er. at least the food webs.

I ordered Papa John's Pizza for dinner.

On a Sunday night.

Sunday nights are supposed to be family dinner nights with whole herb roasted chickens and stew that I've simmered all afternoon long and bread that I've let rise all day. Isn't that what a good little food freak should do? On a Sunday night?!?! Have a long, slow-cooked meal of lazy comfort food?

"Lazy." Not only should I be banned for ordering pizza, but I should be locked into a small room that doesn't have an electrical outlet with a microwave oven and a 3'-high stack of frozen burritos as punishment because I was so busy lazy that I ordered my pizza online.

It's just too easy, friends. Papa John has made it too easy to order a pizza online without even having to move turn my chair from my desk to pick up my phone. Point. Click. Pay. Twenty-seven minutes later, the door buzzes. I'm surprised they don't have some mechanism that will actually beam the pizza to me through the front door.

So there you have it. I've confessed. But at least I didn't tell you about Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

That picture looks better than anything I've had from Papa John's here. I prefer Pizza Inn for delivery here, or one of the local places.

So do all my neighbors -- our local pizza place had an hour wait last night. In fact, the only place in the neighborhood that didn't have a line was the Irish pub.

You did not care for the article, yet you actually took time to write a comment on it? What is your point in writing a response, sheer pettiness? Yeah you have freedom of speech... you also have freedom of silence. use it.

thank you for your comment (i know you're not trying to pick a fight).

this blog, slashfood, is about all things food - everything from recipes to suggested "how-tos", from food porn to product reviews, from food news to yes, even personal experiences. not everyone out there will agree with what and how we write, even within our own team of writers, but for me, food is very personal and emotional, and that is how i write.

this is why slashfood has a team of writers. some of us are more focused on providing recipes for our readers who like those, whether they are original recipes or distributions of existing recipes. some of us focus on news for our readers who like to read food news. i happen to write a little more about how food affects me.

at the end of a very long day, food, imho, should be fun. sure, there will be controversial issues about ethics, health, etc. but in the end, it's all for the greater good, right? we often take things in this life too seriously, and food should be the last thing that causes any conflict. food should be something enjoyable.

yes, this post is about me on a sunday night. it's also about how incredibly easy food companies have made it for people who care about food to slip into laziness and eat "bad food." then again, this post in itself makes me wonder -- what makes me think that eating a certain type of food should have me banned? why should eating pizza be a "confession?" is there something inherently wrong with eating pizza? your comment in #8 is exactly right. "uhm...so?" this is a question i often ask myself - "um, so what?" what is it about this world that has made some of us think that we are better than others because we cook all day with certain types of ingredients or only let ourselves eat what the majority of people would consider "foodie" foods; and others of us think that we aren't as worthy because we like the taste of things that they might consider simple, like, oh i don't know, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. do you see at what i am getting? it's all a matter of taste.

anyway, thanks for the comment, which has allowed me to express all of this a little more explicitly. :)

Ahhh. what you say in your comment resounds much more clearly with me than your acual first post. I completely agree. Why must eating certain foods make you "less" of a food...like meh pizza, cheetohs...taco bell. Obviously we know these foods aren't stellar and shouldn't exactly make the basis of your diet. As "foodies" we can eat that, enjoy it (or not, depending on the mood of your stomach!) and maybe even enjoy the luxury of having a fine meal.
I don't think anyone should have to be ashamed of what they eat, or even think that because they like junk food that they can't fully appreciate really stellar food.

I haven't ordered pizza in a while now, not out of snobbery but because the Pizza Hut near my house never gets the order right and laways takes well over an hour. And who wants to eat Dominoes? Recently,I've been making my own pizzas with the premade dough from Trader Joe's. For easily the same cost as one large pizza supreme delivered in 45mins, I have everything it takes to make 5 pizzas that bake in 20-30 minutes, with only about 5 minutes of prep. Maybe it's not quite as convenient as ordering online (and I haven't found that to be particularly convenient, honestly), but it certainly beats delivery.
