Polls open for 2007 Food Network Awards

The polls are now open for the Viewer's Choice categories of the inaugural Food Network Awards. I'm a little surprised at the nature of the questions - I was expecting something more along the lines of favorite celebrity chef or favorite show (or better yet, most overrated or most annoying), but they have definitely mixed it up a little.

Here is a quick look at the categories and the choices:

Favorite Comfort Foods (Comfort food combos)
Hamburger & Fries
Meatloaf & Mashed Potatoes
Grilled Cheese
Milk & Cookies
Mac 'n Cheese

Best Ballpark Eats (No, not just the hot dogs. They take a look at the full menu offerings)
Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Safeco Field, Seattle
AT&T Park, San Francisco
Camden Yards, Baltimore

'Professional Grade' Kitchen Appliance You Can't Live Without
Blender
Microwave
Grill
Food Processor

Favorite Childhood Read (food-focused story)
James and the Giant Peach
Freckle Juice
Green Eggs and Ham
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Favorite Cool & Classic Cocktail
Martini
Daiquiri
Mojito
Margarita

If you are interested in voting, you can do so at the Food Network website. The awards will be held in April of 2007.

Cocktails, while highly important, are not food.
It is unlikely many people have visited all of those ballparks, and many foodies will not have visited any.
Storybooks? Seriously? How about serious cookbooks.
And they put microwaves on their appliance list but not the all-powerful stand mixer? Ack.
Food Network, stop patronizing your potential audiences. Bring back good cooking programs and stop catering to those who prefer junk food and chemicals to real good food.
