My daughter is a Brownie this year and is selling GSC for the first time. I have my own little supplier! I'm trying to hold myself back, but those Thin Mints are calling me.

I'm with you. The new girl scout cookies were a bit scary. I'll have to wait to see what people think of them. For this year I went with my standard Thin Mints and Samoas. Yum!

The comment about "husband's cousin" and the order form made me think.
When was the last time anyone bought a box of cookies from an actual girl scout? If you see them selling cookies at a table outside the grocery store there's probably a young uniformed girl involved, but barring that I think most people get them at work from a co-worker.

Once upon a time I'd see someone bring their daughter to work to take the orders, or even have a form outiside their office with a note from and picture of their daughter. Now, more than likely there's just a form sitting on the table near the coffee pot. I'll get an email when they arrive with the amount due.

I used to make a point of getting them from co-workers daughters. I'd remember who I got them from last year and approach them around this time of year. Now I know of no girls involved. Are they competing for the most sales? If so, did they win? What did they win?


Oh, I'll take 6 boxes of thin mints please. I load up the freezer and make them last over the next year.

Last year I ordered from co-workers daughters (order form by coffee maker, but hand delivered by girl scout), and from an actual girl scout who lives on our street. I will probably do the same this year. The nice thing is that since we have people living in multiple counties at work, we get choices from both bakers. I am sad, however, that there are no "lemon coolers" anymore. I thought they were great.

And is it me or are the cookies getting smalller adn smaller.they have definitly taken out fat or changed it in some way. Not as rich tasting as they use to be!

Mike, the Girl Scout troops in my area generally set up tables at the train stations during afternoon rush hour and on weekends; usually somewhere between 4-10 scouts with troop leader supervision depending on how busy the given station is. As a twenty-something whose friends don't have girl-children of the appropriate age yet (if at all!), this is the only way I know of to get ahold of my Thin Mints!

I got into such a fuss last re these stupid cookies! I questioned the use of transfats and I was told they couldn't acheive that "gooey goodness" without them. I guess that changed! Without a nostalgic attachment to them, I have to see they aren't particularly good and yes, it seems I've never bought them from an actual GS, only the mother of a GS.

I'm a GS leader for the last 3+ years, and a cookie lover-let me tell you what I know. Second cookie from the top is called a Cafe Cookie is a cinnamon sugar shortbread sort of cookie. It's pretty good. The Cafe Cookie we had last year for the first time. Different GS councils offer slightly different cookies. The Brownie is new for us this year, replacing a Lemon Cooler for the previous couple of years. I liked the lemon and I'm a little sad about them leaving. The All-Abouts have been offered for years in my area. The chocolate is sweet milk chocolate, I've never really taken a shine to these. Our sales start tomorrow, Different areas have different start times. I know my family in AZ sells in autumn. I remember selling as a kid we had a cheesy cracker selection. It was like off brand Cheeze-its, and I was really disappointed by them.

I hope I don't get beat up for this, but I the only person I know who doesn't go ga-ga over Girl Scout cookies. I will buy them for my husband just to support the GS troop, but I don't enjoy them. They just don't taste good to me. It's like buying a package of cookies off the shelf at the grocery store, which I also don't do because they don't taste good.

All-Abouts have been around since my daughter was a brownie 4 or 5 years ago. They're one of the better cookies and one of the few varieties where you get more than about 8 in a box.

Yes! Thank you Carolyn, I do not understand the fuss, GS cookies taste like any other cardboard store bought cookie to me. The only reason they're popular is the "Tickle Me Elmo" mentality, they're only available for a short while and they're kinda hard to find.
Edy's ice cream with girl scout cookies is pretty good.

I am a GS Leader and Cookie Mom for my troop. The new cookies are good. They are sugar free so comparing them to similar products they taste really good. They cannot be compared to Thin Mints or Samoas which are full fat, full sugar products. But they are good if you are watching what you eat.

Am I dating myself to say that when I sold Girl Scout Cookies they were just 50 cents a box? It was a big deal when the price rose to 65 cents a box.

The cookies aren't the same now. Not even the thin mints. They were best when made by Famous Foods of Virginia (FFV).

And while I agree with the poster who said something about not getting them from actual girl scouts anymore, I don't think anyone nowadays would want their kids selling them like we did: door-to-door alone. I remember knocking on a few creepy doors even back then - fortunately, I was smart enough to not go inside when invited.

My daughter is a Brownie this year and selling Girl Scout cookies for the first time. My husband would go out last year and try to find the girls standing out in front of the stores so that he could buy the Cafe cookies that were introduced last year. This year, we went ahead and put in an order for 2 cases of them (24 boxes) with our daughter. I of course couldn't resist buying 8 boxes of Thin Mints myself...

I bought the Brownies this fall. They are pretty tasty in the diabetic catagory but still nothing to compare with my fav's thin mints. I'm diabetic and most all low sugar products just aren't up to par with those that are packed with the real stuff. The brownies are a good attempt to help out people with diabetes.

Really?!? I remember helping sell GS cookies with my sister in the early '60's. Including Tagalogs.
