Dear Domino's,
I'm not going to lie to you. When it comes to fast food pizza, I'm a Pizza Hut guy. Actually, before I even get to calling Pizza Hut, I'll go with one of the two local pizza places in my town. They're two of the best pizzas I've ever had anywhere, and I usually go with one of them. But last night I had this craving for one of your deep dish pepperoni pizzas. Plus there's a Domino's right next door to my apartment and I didn't feel like going across town.
So I went to you web site and almost ordered the pizza online. Not because I'm lazy, but because I've never ordered a pizza online before and thought it would be fun. I decided to just walk over because it's only about 33 steps from my front door. But while I was on your site I noticed something that troubles me.
You say on this page here that one of your medium pizzas is 12 inches and serves 2 to 4 people and that your large is 14 inches and serves 3 to 5 people. Question: how big are these people? Because, to be honest, I can eat one of your medium pizzas, even if it's deep dish and with a topping, with no problem whatsoever. And I can finish about 80% of the large, and that number goes to 100% if I take a break and eat the last couple of slices later that night.
Which is exactly what happened last night.
Now, I'm not saying that people should eat whole pizzas all by themselves. But I am saying that I think you really underestimate the eating ability of a really hungry guy.
Sincerely,
Bob Sassone

On Saturday, as a personal challenge to myself, I ate an entire Large pepperoni pizza and drank an entire two liter of root beer, so one large pizza in one sitting is definitely a possibility. Great point on the suggested serving size, I'm with you Bob.

I bet a hungry girl can put away a medium pizza, too. You know, when it has been sitting on the coffee table in front of her for 2 hours while she's playing Halo 2.
Not that I know any girl who does that...

Sounds like standard fare. For example, I happen to have a regular old bottle of snapple sitting here and it says on the label that it's two servings. Go figure....
I suspect that it is a way to show reduced calorie and daily value count. Take a big unhealthy item and divide it out but many servings so the label doesn't look so bad.

I did that last summer all the time. The beach for most of the day, call in the 555 deal, have it be there when we got back. I could pu away a Med easily and a large if I were really hungry.

I can put away a whole medium pizza if I really want to. But because I'm conscious of what I eat I try to stop at half of a large pizza (plus I'm usually sharing with my boyfriend) but then I also get wings and maybe some cinnastix or something... hahaha *shame*

Just because you *can* doesn't mean you *should.* Portion control is such a problem, particularly in America, that we don't like it when faced with what a reasonable portion *is* -- including pizza. We want all of it, or at least * a lot * of it. We're pigs. And we're obese because of it.

For Real??? Eating a whole pizza isn't healthy?? WOW! c'mon. we all know that. no, we shouldn't eat an entire pizza. Everyday; or even once a week. I don't know Bob's daily eating habits, but I'm gathering that it isn't a daily occassion. Dominoe's pizzas are oddly small for serving 3-5 people. That was his point. Take it. I bet you've never eaten more than you should!! :)

I would assume that Domino's, or whomever, would prefer to say on their website that a medium would server one, a large two, ect. They would sell more pizza that way. I think there must be some federal mandate at work here, the same one that says a bottle of Snapple is two servings.

Even weirder ... here in the UK if you order a Domino pizza on-line apparently it goes to an office in London and they fax the order to the appropriate local branch! Maybe it's just the geek in me that finds that weird ...
My boyfriend and I can polish off a 14" pizza without thinking, and an ex boyfriend and I used to make a pretty good stab at an 18" - but he would say he felt like he was going to be sick if I ate any more and there were always a couple of small squares left for breakfast! Needless to say - we both played a LOT of sport!!

When I was a feisty, young sailor thirty-odd years ago I was known to frequent a place known as Shakey's Pizza. Pizza Hut was still trying to build that national exposure and Domino's wasn't even a dream yet.
I would go to Shakey's on Tuesday nights to hang with my favorite pro wrestlers and eat pizza. I would normaally order a large pepperooni with a pitcher of black beer. There were never any leftovers and I didn't share. I miss those days because I can't have pizza any more. Since the heart attack it is forbidden.
So, every time you tie into a whole pie, give a little nod my way. Enjoy!

A medium pizza -- especially a deep-dish medium -- is not a single serving. What a fantastic example of how Americans have become accustomed to super-sized portions.

Jason -- I noticed. Cheers!
Beth -- of course I've overeaten (when I do, however, I make it worth my while with quality food). Bob may have been trying to be funny, but he he seems to sincerely think that the serving size shouldn't be as claimed. My point is that Americans don't often *recognize* appropriate serving sizes, and you've just proved my point. What's pretty darn normal, looks too small to Bob and "oddly small" to you.
To borrow from your curt (albeit with a token smiley face) response: That's my point. Take it. ::insert smiley face here::

Wow, I would be careful about chowing down on a whole lg Donino's pizza. The calorie content of a lg deepdish pepperoni is 3280. Just becareful!

Dominos is not good pizza. Good pizza places don't deliver, because they don't have to. A place whose advertising makes the point that they deliver can be expected to have the worst pizza, which is about what Domino's is. Therefore you eat more, because you are looking for that pizza satisfaction and aren't getting it.
Get a pie at one of the non-chains in your town, and you may find that you have pizza left over for breakfast, which, as all true pizza lovers know, is the best meal at which to eat pizza.

Good pizza is delivered. Except for a very few exceptions, all pizza is delivable in Minneapolis. That includes all the non-chain places.
The places that don't deliver are either a) very high end b) nasty take and bake or c) frozen pizzas heated at a bar and offered to the drunk patrons and neighbors.

Indeed, Kassie! Certainly, the pizza place considered "best" in San Francisco by Yelpers delivered, as did many other highly recommended pizzerias. Sit-down Italian restaurants that had substantial pizza menus didn't always deliver, but that's a slightly different industry (and wasn't necessarily a source of better pizza).
I haven't checked here in Phoenix, but that's mostly because we live across the street from one of the best pizzerias.

I do this all the time, but with Little Caesars. For $5.71 (with tax) i get a large pepperoni pizza, thats cheaper than most burgers end up costing.
I already know i will be dying of heart disease, I will be the poster child for the skinny tall people with high metabolizam that think they are immune :-)
