It's like a virtual Ice Cream Social here at Slashfood! We've already met Nick Vagnoni, Joe Di Stefano, Nicole Weston, Jonathan Forester, and most recently, Sarah J. Gim (that's me). Now let's take a peek into the refrigerator of Bob Sassone, writer extraordinaire near Boston, MA. Yes, the picture IS Bob.-- Sarah J. Gim
Do you have a personal blog?
Yup, at bobsassone.typepad.com. I have also edited an online magazine for the past several years, professorbarnhardtsjournal.
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging?
Writer.
How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post?
I've been blogging here since August of 2005. As for favorite post, I really can't think of one that stands out. I like all the posts that have to do with junk
food and supermarket stuff.
Do you have any non-food-related, non-blogging hobbies?
Reading, tennis, watching TV, collecting old ads, listening to music.
Not every foodie does, so we have to ask. Do you cook?
Yes. I really like making pasta dishes, cookies, and nobody makes a better chicken noodle soup than I do!
What is your most prized utensil/gadget in the kitchen?
My Connoisseur Wine Bottle Opener. Works like magic.
List three things in your refrigerator right now.
Diet Coke, Perdue chicken, Dove dark chocolate.
You have to impress a date with a meal. What are you going to make?
I'd first find out what she likes and then I'd make that.
What is the last thing you ate?
Pistachios.
Confession time – what do you eat that will get you banned from Slashfood?
Frozen foods, Kraft Grated Cheese, microwavable White Castle burgers.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pepperoni pizza.
Your Mom makes the best _____.
She passed away several years ago, but she was a terrific cook (and my dad owned restaurants his whole life). She made great spaghetti and meatballs.
Which chef would you most like to have come into your kitchen and cook you dinner?
Julia Child and Jamie Oliver. Child for obvious reasons (a legend), and I think Oliver would make some different stuff I don't make myself.
With whom would you most like to eat dinner?
Friends. For someone famous, I'd say Amy Sedaris.
Your drink of choice?
If we're talking alcohol, I would say a really good cabernet or gin and tonic. Non-alcholic would be tea.
Where was your best restaurant dining experience?
Los Angeles, 1994. A place called Bo Kaos. I had a really expensive scallop dish, the scallops surrounded by this tall structure made out of potatoes.
The worst?
A few years ago, a restaurant in Boston I'd rather not name. I had heard so many great things about it, but I went there with a group of friends and it was awful. The drinks were served in dirty glasses, the main dish was cold, and the chicken wings we got looked more like dead pigeons.
Do you want fries with that?
Yes. And Super-Size them please.
What foods do you think should be banished from existence?
Lobster, shrimp, liver, and Clamato.
Slashfood becomes the #1 food blog in the world.
