Update: What did you drink on New Year's Eve?

Rodney Strong cabernetOf course, I don't mean to presume that you drank any alcohol of any kind. No. If all you drank the other night was ginger ale or Yoo-Hoo, that's fine too.

Nicole asked the other day what you were going to drink on New Year's Eve, and I wanted to see how it turned out for you. I originally planned to drink mixed drinks all night, maybe Negronis or gin and tonics, but I changed my mind while shopping.

I started the day with about 5 cups of tea (cut down on sugar, that should be another one of my resolutions), and then the evening activities got going around 6pm. I opened up a bottle of Rodney Strong cabernet and drank the entire bottle (other people in the room stuck to their own wine and to mixed drinks). It was the best bottle of wine I've ever had, and I'm a little mad at myself that I didn't note if it was 2002 or 2003 (I threw the bottle out and the trash man came this morning). It was one of those years though, so check 'em out.

At midnight, we opened up a bottle of Korbel champagne. That was tasty too. It's the only time of year I drink champagne.

What did you have to drink?

Started at about 8pm with a bottle of Snow Plow milk stout from Widmer Breweries, then opened the bottle of 2005 Niagra (complete with wacky label) from Oak Knoll. It's a very sweet, excessively fruity wine that I like for special occasions, since I'm not fond of sparkling wines, no matter their terroir.

That's about when the couch got flipped over and people started chicken fighting. Don't ask, I'm not sure why.

Being true twentysomething Portlanders, the entire house saluted midnight with cans of PBR.

Pretty sure the last thing he had to drink was a vodka tonic, and I had a half-glass of cherry Kijafa. That stuff is tasty. Then 11:30 hit, and we were fast asleep, no party, no nothin'.

Our optimistic bottle of champagne sits in the cabinet. Valentine's day?

We also stumbled upon another semi-sparkling at Trader Joe's, Contadino Pinot Grigio, that we bought for the TJ-est price of $4.49. It had wonderful tiny little bubbles and was not over-sweet like I find other Italian Proseccos and sparklings to be. Good find.

The upside was that New Year's day was sans hangover for us!!

I stuck with Gin and Tonics most of the night, adding in a glass of chardonnay and a Heineken at various points, along with the celebratory champagne toasts. My inebriation was total and complete. I'm STILL a bit overhung.

And then some Madeira with dessert, I don't remember what kind it was, though.
