Funny post over at Boston.com's Dig blog. They list a number of items that you can get with $50, including the season two box set of Grey's Anatomy, a car model, and an entire dinner at one of Boston's finest restaurants. Or, you could get one omelet.
That's what they're offering for brunch at Tremont 647 in Boston. And before you say, "$50 for, what, a ham and cheese omelet?!", note that it is stuffed with foie gras, lobster, shrimp and steak (gah - except for the steak and eggs it sounds like my meal in hell).
I've often wondered what I would eat if I was ridiculously wealthy. Would I start eating at the finest restaurants all the time? Would I eat only the best steaks? Would I have a personal chef? Would I spend money on $50 omelets and other expensive foods we always here about, like $100 hamburgers and $10,000 bottles of champagne? If I was ridiculously rich? Yeah, probably.

Do these flavors actually "go" together? This sounds like just combining expensive ingredients for the sake of being expensive.
If I were ridiculously wealthy for a reason that didn't require hanging out with other ridiculously wealthy people, I'd probably eat pretty much the same way we do now, just without ever letting unpleasant words like "budget" cross my mind. There are one or two fancy restaurants it might be fun to hit more often, but it's the little ethnic dives that serve food I like.

Oh my, after the debate on the $42 brownies I can only imagine what this post will draw. Cost aside, Are we talking ALL of those items in ONE omelet? If so that sounds disgusting ...not to mention HUGE! Separatelyy ..ehh I would give it a try...but probably only if someone else is buying.

Uh, does anybody know what happened to something called "taste"? It seems taste is beging overshadowed by hype. Don't people enjoy what they eat anymore?????

Whew, that sounds like a omlet BOMB. Can you imagine that settling in your stomach? haha
All of those ingredients are soooo rich, I can't imagine them being all tossed together. I have the same thoughts as Calamari...seems like they just through all the big ticket items under one egg. blech.

They forgot the whipped cream and black-eyed peas. Menu items like that make hype, headlines, and money - but they don't make for good food.
