Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin, Cookbook of the Day

Gerry Garvin is a chef with one of the most popular TV shows on TV One. His first cookbook Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin share's the show's name, giving it instant recognizability for fans. Garvin has an impressive resume, especially considering that many TV chefs often are criticized for a lack of experience, having worked at the Ritz-Carlton, as executive chef at Morton's, at Kass Bah and Reign and (of course) as co-owner/executive chef of G. Garvin's, his restaurant in Los Angeles. But his style is relaxed, "maximum flavor and minimal effort" and the 200 recipes in the book reflect the idea of simple, but tasty, food. The recipes, all of which are clear and concise, touch on French, Italian, Cajun, Indian and American cuisines and include Stuffed Pork Chops with Ricotta and Spinach, Cornbread Mashed Potatoes and Sweet Potato Pie.

Isn't it nice to see someone else providing recipes like this, offering a new perspective to the "busy home chef" genre from some of the same old Food Network personalities?

The best thing is some of his stuff is americana passed from generation to generation and for those who don't have that generational link here is what would have been passed. A few of his dishes I have enhanced with my own generational link. Hey G. for lemonade heat your sugar and 1/2 water together to make a syrup follow the rest of your recipe.

No matter your race, religion, culture, or creed G is a testament to being anything you want to be as long as you put your mind to it and believe. The recipes are easy, not time consuming, and deliciously fresh. Never have I seen such a variety of recipes that touch on so many genres of food (french, italian, cajun, american, southern, and more), and still allow a in house cook like me to enjoy, what people pay an arm and a leg to taste at his restraunt probably. I LOVE IT!!! Cant wait until Turn Up the Heat 2 the sequal. Congrats on your success, and I wish you much more.

I love a man who can cook, as I have a brother who is a chef and have always loved a man in the kitchen who can absolutely throw down.

A huge fan in Alabama.

You remind me of my brother who is also a chef but I think you got him beat :-). I am currently working on a screenplay that features a chef such as yourself. I would like very much to get it to you once it is complete. Hit me back on e-mail if you can robinwrites@sbcglobal.net
