I have a confession to make (let it out Bob, confession is good for the soul). Two, actually. Not only have I never made my own eggnog for Christmas, I usually just buy the store bought stuff. Yeah, I know.
It's not that the store stuff is terrible. I wouldn't drink it every year if I didn't like it. It's an OK substitute for people like me who are lazy intimidated by eggnog recipes. I mean, making a drink with sugar and eggs that you have to separate? I've never wanted to do it (though if I did, this one sounds good).
While surfing around I found this recipe for an eggnog called a White Christmas. It sounds like a nice twist on the classic.
4 oz. eggnog
1/2 oz. white chocolate liqueur
1 oz. Southern Comfort
edible gold flakes or chocolate flakes for the top
Easy recipe: just pour all of the ingredients into a snifter, place gold flakes or chocolate on top and drink. Repeat as many times as necessary.
The recipe doesn't say anything about using store eggnog or homemade, but make sure you use an eggnog that doesn't have any alcohol already in it (since you're adding Southern Comfort and white chocolate liqueur). Or you can always experiment with adding brandy!

Remind us again why you, someone who is seemingly afraid of even the most basic culinary preparations, are allowed to write for a food blog?

Bob don't listen to them, I buy the local dairy eggnog, a tasy fixture for over 60 years, its real/all natural thus the need to run to the dairy on christmas eve day. Why mess with perfection? I make a little latino drink called coquito. Egg nog, rum, one can of trader joes lite coconut milk and cinnamon. It is soooooo good. You never feel it hit. I am sure you can add 2 shots of rum for the less celebratory crowd, or no booze at all. It is a must try. Trust me.
