Dinner: Impossible

In January, the Food Network will be debuting a new reality show called Dinner: Impossible. The show features chef Robert Irvine, who has cooked for the British royal family and four US presidents, and his two sous chefs (both named George), all of whom are put into strange situations in which they have to prepare gourmet food while overcoming various obstacles. By obstacles, we're not referring to any Indiana Jones-like traps, but more along the lines of extremely unusual working conditions. For example, one episode will feature the chefs having to shop for and prep dinner for 150, to be served on a train - assuming that they don't get left at the station. Another will feature the chefs cooking with 18th century equipment and utensils, also on a tight timeline. Essentially, the chefs will not know where they are going, where they will be working or who they will be cooking for before they arrive and will have to cook the best food they can in the circumstances. Perhaps the only downside is that, unlike Top Chef, which also features some somewhat extreme cooking situations, no one will be voted off on this show so the only thing that really will keep the chefs motivated is their own desire to beat the odds.

Turns out the Executive Producer Marc Summers is a bit of a wine geek. The whole experience was a lot of fun, and the cast and crew seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.
As far as motivation goes... I think a train, in the middle of nowhere, full of potentially angry diners who paid a lot of money for a good dinner, might be motivating enough...!
I posted some pictures from the dinner, hope you and your readers enjoy them:

Are they going to do one trying to get three kids of various ages all with different after school schedules--to/from which the chefs (and sous) have to cart them to-and-fro in addition to cooking, in addition to outrageous food aversions, phobias, "stages" and/or allergies?

Now THAT I'd watch.

I am currently in Culinary school and watching them work is fasinating! Cooking is an art and you must be particular about what you send out of the kitchen. We eat with our eyes before it ever hits our mouth. That being said......I will watch every week to see the wonderful work that they do. It gives me a taste of what is to come for me once I graduate! Passion for food!

We tailgate for college football and it amazed me how people would give up their tailgates for him and practically no money. Some even gave up their pre-game tailgates and were willing to cook for him. Not sure I would be so generous if he came up to our tailgate and asked for our food and grill.

I enjoyed the show and will tivo it now to see the episodes I missed. One good thing about the Foodnetwork, they repeat things enough so you can catch up when you can.
