To quote Tom Cruise on The Today Show, "Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt..."
Matt Wilson over at Cracked.com gives his list of the Best and Worst Thanksgiving Food. I made a prediction before I even read the piece that turkey, stuffing, and pie would be in the "best" category, while green bean casseroles and yams would be in the "worst." Well, I was partly right. He actually lists turkey in the "worst" category!
Whaaaaa?
He gives big props to pie, corn on the cob, and yams though. He doesn't like the cranberry sauce in a can, and it makes me wonder if he even knows you don't have to have it in can, you can actually make fresh stuff yourself!
Matt, seriously, how can you not like turkey? Are you a Communist? (Funny part about the family awkwardness though.)
So what are your favorite ane least favorite Thanksgiving Day foods?

Down with turkey. Not my favorite at all....unless maybe it's a heritage turkey.

Having all that leftover meat
plus a carcass in the fridge
until trash day = yuck !
We eat ham, stuffed chicken breasts,
pork chops, or something else.

Stuffing (alternately "dressing") can be one of the most memorable, delectable facets of Thanksgiving Dinner. It can (and has, in my experience) also be one of the absolute worst accompaniments to an otherwise splendid meal.
It's not easy to F-up mashed potatoes. Nowadays, it's virtually impossible to screw up a turkey. But the stuffing: you need to be on top of that, at least for a short time.

i absolutely love the rolls and pumpkin pie. mashers are a necessity, but only if done right!
happy turkey day slashfood fans.

Years later, my mother-in-law insisted I try her sausage and apple stuffing. It did not drip....it was wonderful...sorry, mom.

I emjoy pumpkin chesse cake and pecan pie (my favorite pie) but this year I bought Key line cheesecake so hopefully it will fit in my meal this year. Biscuits are overated too, so try making corn bread muffins. Del-lessh! (Sorry Rachel Ray!)

My favorite would probably be the baked sweet potatoes. Least favorite: cranberry sauce. Ick.

My absolute favorite would be perfection salad. I do not believe anyone I have ever spoken to has ever heard of it besides me. Shredded cabbage and carrots, diced green bell peppers, crushed pineapple, mixed together- all held together by flavorless gelatin mixed with lemon juice and a bit of sugar added. Dob of mayo on top is optional, but highly recommended. It's like coleslaw but not. Has anyone else ever heard of this? My grandmother claims it came out of a Southern Living Magazine.... ages ago.

Best: A perfectly-roasted turkey with my mama's cornbread (she's Southern, from North Carolina) dressing; yams candied with brown sugar, butter and bourbon; sauteed greens with crispy garlic; potato rolls; The Best Pumpkin Pie (secret recipe), and pumpkin-fudge ice cream.

Best? Deserts! I have an awful powerful sweet tooth and the cheesecakes, pumpkin roulades, pecan pies, apple tarts... oh my!

Christina, if a sensible soul makes stuffing without any sort of sausage, uses vegetable broth to moisten it, and cooks it outside the turkey, then it's meat-free.

I love the cranberry sauce, could eat that alone and be happy. Not a real big meat person but, don't mind eating turkey and gravey. I like stuffing, provided it isn't too dry. I have had a friend make a stuffing that was real good and tried to copy it. It had chopped nuts and crasins in it.

My favorites are either the sweet potatoes (they just don't taste the same any other time of year) and my sister's mashed potatoes (I don't know what her secret is...but mmmmm!!!!). It goes without saying of course, apple pie....yummy!!!
