When I heard that Noah's Bagels and Einstein Bros. Bagels, which are owned by the same parent company, are introducing Candy Cane Bagels for the holidays, it didn't sound like an appealing concept. Cream cheese and peppermints? Not the best combination, especially not where breakfast food is concerned. Fortunately, the bagels are not mint-flavored at all, but merely shaped like candy canes. They are made of red and white potato doughs that are twisted together and bent into a hooked candy cane. They have a very light coating of powdered sugar, added partially for looks and partially to give it a little something to stand out from the ordinary bagels where flavor is concerned.
The company says that the bagels "taste as good as they look," but I'm not entirely sure that most bagel fans will like their look -- or the sugary coating -- when given the choice between one of these and a regular bagel. They are very cute, however, and would probably be well received at an office holiday party.

Just because they're made with potato dough doesn't mean they have any connection to a bagel! They look GROSS! Get a doughnut if you want something sugary coated. They're no match for a good old fashioned onion bagel with lox and a shmear of cream cheese.

I wonder if they taste any more like real bagels than those lousy rings of bread that they normally sell.

Those are adorable! I need to get over to an Einstein's to get some and a few of their baby challahs. Which will be a fitting combination for me.

They look very decorative and cute, but given the choice side by side with regular bagels, I would probably choose the regular bagel if I were looking for something to eat.

Two comments:
a) I do think they are cute. Not sure they would taste wonderful, but they don't sound horrid either. I'd risk trying them, if offered one.
b) As for being "sacreligious"..how is a Candy Cane a religious symbol? Do tell me..what religion uses the Candy Cane as a symbol? Okay, they have a loose tie to Christmas..but they are just seen as a secular holiday decoration now.
Oh well, some people have to give the knee-jerk politically correct response.

Their bagels are horrible anyway, even in the normal shape. Although this is a cute idea, I'd only consider buying some if they were made by a decent bagel-maker.

The bagel is already so bowlderized---blueberry, sundried tomato, etc., that ir doesn't really matter. Just another way of merchandising in the Xmas franchise.

These look fun...but I really miss the ribbon bagels, for breast cancer awareness, from panera bread...they were the familiar pink ribbon shape and had cranberries, cherries, nuts and honey in them....anyone know if panera will be selling them as a reg bagel?
