I was watching Food Network on Saturday night (yes, I have a very thrilling social life) and I saw an ad for their All-Star Thanksgiving special that starts airing on November 18. Is that the special from last year or the year before and not a new special? I ask because Sara Moulton is featured on the show, and I'm not sure if this is a new special or a special from the last couple of years.I used to love Cooking Live every night and think it was a bad move to cancel that show. Moulton went on to another show, Sara's Secrets.
Nicole reported last year that Moulton was leaving the network, so are these Sara Secrets episodes repeats? I can't tell from the schedule at the site. When I saw the ad for the Thanksgiving special, it made me cringe a bit, because I know that she's basically not doing much for the network anymore, unless the episodes of her show that are on every morning are new and not repeats? To be honest, I didn't even know the show was still on anymore, and I usually don't watch Food Network that early in the AM, so I'm not sure if they're new or repeats.

It is my understanding that Sara Moulton is no longer at the Food Network and has not been for some time now. Although Sara's Secrets episodes still air they are indeed repeats. I'm not sure about the Thanksgiving Special.

Yes, food tv wants to attract people that aren't too interested in cooking...instead they are pimping no talents like rachel rey of yumo fame...and sandra lee who manages turn canned and store bought items into something inedible!
Really sad, I think...even Emeril is dumming it down...making views recipes for garbage cuisine.
I just can't watch anymore..it's too painful.

The Thanksgiving special is definitely not new. I know it aired last year, and possibly the year before as well. I feel like this exact same discussion took place last year on a couple of other message boards, where people were curious about why Sara Moulton was appearing on the special when her show wasn't being renewed. I think this special is from 2004, possibly even earlier.

Sara is more like someone's mom, which isn't a bad thing. I think FoodNetwork is trying to attract a
younger audience in addition to promoting less
knwledgeable personalities, like those from the
Next FoodNetwork Star, or what ever they call it.
I don't watch the channel that much anymore. It's
lost whatever appeal to me it once had.

My hope is that Food Network does not follow MTVs example and take Food Network down the abyss of pop culture garbage that has little to nothing to do with the original mission of the network.
There is just something not right about having a talk show that has little to do with food on the Food Network (Rachel Ray's new show). So Rachel (and Food Network), if you want to do a talk show, then take it into another paradigm and keep Food Network about food.

Heck, I didn't even miss her. I agree that the quality of the cooking shows have gone down and the making of celebrities has gone up.
I'm still wondering if anyone can tell me why they all have a little bowl of salt to stick their moist, food contaminated fingers into in order to sprinkle some on the food. I hope they discard it..what a waste. Only for show, I guess.

I liked Sara and miss seeing her on the Food Network. Like most that posted, I too can't stomache the route the shows have taken. I was charmed by Sara and her "realness" when she would stumble over her words and make mistakes. I do admit to tuning in to Giad's show every now and then to see just how low her blouse will be that day.

I know the special is from at least 2 years ago. I remember seeing Sarah on a talk show years ago and she said that she wanted to stop doing Cooking Live because it required too much time and she still had her other job as editor. The food network offered her Sara's Secrets which required less time to produce. I miss her, she was real and down to earth without any Bams or EVOO trademarks. She just taught you how to cook wasn't gearing herself towards celebrity status.

I don't know about Sara's repeats, but there are sure a lot of repeats within this post! You sound pretty worked up about this topic, Bob...(I agree about loss of quality broadcsting on Food Network, though)

I've missed Sara because she's one of the few celebrity cooks I would have let into my kitchen to give me a few hints. I might let Alton in. In Canada, we also used to have the Canadian Living team of three average women, all of whom knew a spurtle from a spatula. Now the Cooking Channel and HGTV are peopled with "pretties" who froth, bubble and squeak (and that's just their personalities). Bring back hosts who know how to cook and can teach us all about the craft.
A lone exception on cooking TV is Christopher Kimball's crew of "just folk." I'd let any of them into my kitchen (after I tidy up quite a bit.)

Sara Moulton was one of the worst things to happen to Food Network. Her horribleness can only be superseded by Rachel Ray's existence and Paula Deen's Emeril-rip-off.

I really enjoyed Sara. She was real. Now I like Emeril, but the BAMS, and kicking it up a notch have gotten a bit much. RR...no comment. Paula Deen makes me laugh, mostly because I too am that Southern lady, who laughs too loud, weighs a little more than I should, and frankly I believe the kitchen is the heart of the home.

I believe all of Sara`s shows are repeats and the Thanksgiving special which the Food Network aired was also from a previous year.It was also sad to not see Sara this year as part of the Christmas specials the Food Network is advertising and promoting as I write these comments.New viewers to the Food TV don`t realize that Sara Moulton will all her admirable credentials and experience in the food industry really helped lay the foundation for the Food Network through her many years of service with them. For example if you combined all the new food personalities on Food Network their years of experience in the food industry wouldn`t come close to Sara`s.Obviously the folks who are in charge are placing entertainment ahead of experience. Her straight foward approach and teaching from experience will be missed by many. I found her sense of humor and stories very entertaining. She is also a extremly valuable mentor to aspiring chefs! If you want to be entertained watch the Food Network. If you want to learn everything about cooking watch Sara Moulton when she makes the move to PBS!Being a classicly trained chef, teacher, parent and her working experience in the food industry she is able to view every food related issue from different perspectives which is valuable to all of us.

Sara is such a lady...and a REAL cook. We need more of her or her kind. Love Rachael's 30 minute meals; $40 a Day, OK; the travels and talk show, not a good thing. Essence of Emeril is my favorite of his shows; Emeril Live -- too much drama: the BAMs, kicking it up another NOTCH, and the 3-Stooges sounds can go. Giada and her inappropriate wardrobe can go, also. Even Paula (as much as I love her choice of recipes) has incorporated too much drama. Come on, guys and gals, this is a food channel -- let's see more technique, good recipes, and beautiful food.
