Pernod Ricard is launching a new champagne at a price that will make Cristal and Dom Perignon look like two-buck Chuck, as $400 per bottle price tags seem small when compared to this one. The wine and spirits group said that it would be launched under their Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque brand and it will be priced at $1,270 (€1,000) per bottle. This makes it the most expensive champagne in the world. Unfortunately, aside from the price tag, the company was fairly quiet about the other details of the release, though chairman Patrick Ricard did say "We won't do many cases and won't be offering it in France."
The group is actively pursuing ways to increase the perception of their brands as very upmarket, so perhaps this will be the first of many releases from the company. Regardless it will certainly set a benchmark in the champagne industry.

A disgusting way of wasting so much money - buy a cheaper bottle to get hammered and donate the rest to charities!!

Please remember that the price of a bottle of wine has nothing to do with how good the wine is.
For example: a little known Champagne called "Salon Champagne", (retails for about $18) ranked higher in WINE SPECTATOR surveys then some Champagnes that were selling in the $200-$300 range.
Let the buyer beware.

the french wont get it because they know its junk. A ten dollar bottle does the same thing a twelve hundred bottle would.

As a wine steward do you know why they won't sell it in France, because the French know better, they would not spend that much for champagne, only us americans will. The French don't even buy Dom Perginon.
Did you know that the wine they are selling for $1200.00 come fromt he same vineyard as thier $49.99 perrier jouet line. Know wonder most foreigners they we are stupid.

"salon" champagne is FAR from 18 a bottle. Being in the wine business in New York for years, I am quite curious to taste this bottle.

I've been to the Salon caves and I also can tell you that Salon is far from 18 per bottle. I can also tell you that it isn't even produced every year. It is only produced in the years that the grapes produce a very specific sugar content. If their vineyards do not produce within the parameters set, then the grapes are sold off to other manufactures. I had the luxury of trying 3 different bottles from three differnet years and the tastes varied tremendously. They were all fantastic but were very different.

They won't sell it in France for the same reason the 1st growths don't sell in France. Socialism doesn't produce enough wealthy people who can afford it.

if they want blow $1200.00 a bottle good for the wine producer. In some clubs in Vegas people spend $500.00 for a bottle of Old no.7 and a table. Nothing special there either.

I agree that it could never be worth paying that much!! (But would love to try it just because) Chandon, Mumm Napa amongst others are great and at a fraction of that price.

lets compare apples and coconuts: Perrier Jouet to 2 buck chuck. if it were at a tasting i'd pay to taste it to see if its worth it or not. afterall you cannot really commnet on it until you taste it. for the true wine lover it is not about the cost but rather the emotional experience that counts. heck if you think its just a beverage then you might as well add orange juice and ice.

My husband and I went out for a very nice dinner and I noticed they had Cristal listed. I always assumed the more expensive the champagne, the better...WRONG....the bottle added an additonal $350.00 to the bill and we both hated it...
