Rachael Ray, Giada on Iron Chef America this weekend

At the beginning of the year, we mentioned that a special celebrity chef episode of Iron Chef America would be airing in fall and it looks like the week has finally arrived! This Sunday's episode of Iron Chef America will feature both Rachael Ray and Giada de Laurentiis, pairing Rachael with Mario Batali and Giada with Bobby Flay, in what is sure to be an interesting showdown, to say the least.

Who will win the battle of food network personalities? Rachael is primarily self taught and most of her cooking experience comes from actually teaching others to cook, aside from a stint as the chef at Cowan & Lobel market in Albany, New York. Giada, on the other hand, studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and worked at several well-known restaurants, including Spago in Los Angeles, before starting a catering company. This isn't to say that all professionally trained chefs will do better than home schooled ones, but it is the really high-end, innovative dishes that "wow" the judges on ICA and it seems like Giada would be more likely to turn them out than Rachael. Bobby and Mario will have a big part in this two, of course, so based on previous episodes and the personalities of all four "Food Network All-Star" participants, I'm rooting for Bobby's team.

Bobby Flay.

Even though he'd taste awful - all sour and sinewy and tough - it would be lovely to watch his chopped up body rise up on the podium amidst dry ice and a cloud of flies.

Can't stand Bobby Flay.
Can't stand Racheal Ray.

The only positive thing about having RR on ICA is that Alton Brown's emcee role will mean I don't have to listen to her say "Yum-OH" "Delish!" or "EVOO." She's a waste of air time. Cute Vespa, though.

While I certainly think that the Bobby/Giada team is much more likely to win, I cannot bring myself to root for the supremely arrogant Bobby Flay over Mario Batali - come to think of it you'd have to pit Flay against someone like Jeffrey Dahmer before I would hope that Flay would triumph (Iron Chefs, your secret ingredient is: Long Pork?)

I will root for Mario and Rachael, but wish thay had put the Italian chefs together.

I read somewhere that the secret ingredient is going to be cranberries, which would put Giada ata distinct disadvantage.

I REALLY THOUGHT THAT BOBBY & GIADA WOULD WIN, BUT LISTENED TO THE "JUDGES" AND KNEW THAT RACHEL & MARIO HAD IT. IT APPEARED AT TIMES, THAT BOBBY WAS GETTING A LITTLE "PUT OUT" AT GIADA'S ANTICS - I.E., JUMPING UP AND DOWN BECAUSE THE WATER WASN'T HITTING A BOILING POINT FAST ENOUGH. RACHEL REALLY DID LOOK UPTIGHT AND UNEASY... I'M NOT SURE IF IT WAS A SYMPATHY VOTE FOR HER.

I normally don't Bobby but I thought he handled her beautifully and calmly. She really turned me off and she was so defensive during judging. I really thought Rachael didn't have a chance before I saw the show but she was so calm throughout the show and was very gracious at the end.

why is Giada's head so big?? I was kind of shocked they were both so tiny.

I'm all for a re-match. one on one and I hope the judges based their scores on the dishes Giada and Rachael made and not on their "helpers".

I thought GdL should have won on difficulty and presentation, taste us viewers cannot know, so I cant say. I think the judges voted for RR and Mario because of the "champagne brown nosing" and RR's puppy dog pleading look during tasting. They voted for the "funner" team. Bobby seemed to stare down the judges, not a way to capture them...

Hey Jen Stone, RELAX! Mario and Bobby were the "sidekicks".

Rachael may cook in 30mins, but to me, she cooks always the same dish with different ingredients, no variety. I think Rachael's victory was a part of politics or deal. Food Network didn't want to piss her off (you can tell she has a stronger personality.) and scared to loose her from FNW since she's very busy with her talkshow and other things.

I cant believe all of you crazy people and your hating on RR - she did great and deserved to win - you're just a bunch of sore losers because your beauty queen - fake italian didn't win. I mean - why does she pronounce foods like that when she was born in the US!!!! I'll admit, she's cute - but instead of bringing it, she thought cute was enough. A real woman won and she deserved to!

It's really sad to have so much hate toward a person that you don't even know; if one of them walked past you on the street they wouldn't even recognize you. Get a grip.

Mario and Rachael made several great presentations. The ragout on the pasta with the added sausage made this dish quite unique so it was not just another Italian spaghetti dish. We can only go by the comments of the judges. The final dessert by Bobby was the icing on the cake and gave then the win.
