Make a list of all the things that could contribute to world peace on a piece of paper. Is bacon at the top? If not, perhaps it should be. The people at Peace Through Pork think that it might just be the key to solving the world's problems. They offer up a deep, critical explanation in which bacon is a metaphor for the fears and desires of both societies and individuals, but to keep it brief, here is their drunken frat boy explanation:
- Bacon is really tasty.
- People that don't eat bacon obviously have issues.
Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? One slice of bacon, by the way, has only about 40 calories and 3 grams of fat, along with 3 grams of protein, which makes it a filling and satisfying food that shouldn't necessarily be counted out of your diet for health reasons unless you're watching your saturated fat intake (1.1 g), in which case you want to eat it in moderation. If you're interested in showing your support, a bacon awareness bracelet is available.
Non-food related note: If you're a registered voter in the US, you can also make a difference in a way that is unrelated to bacon. You can go out and vote!

That's actually much more insightful and nicer than I thought it would be. I've actually gotten a lot of grief over not eating bacon or pork and it's usually when I say I don't like it. When I say it's because it's not kosher most people will stop and maybe just give me a dirty look. And the dirty looks never happen because they know I don't keep kosher. Bacon is sacred to some people. It's scary.
But the message of "if we can't talk about bacon, how can we talk about anything?" is potent and worth spreading. As long as I don't have to be near the bacon. Ew.

Bacon is also high in salt. Salt is bad for high blood pressure, and most people will have high blood pressure at some point in their lives. And hypertension has many bad side effects as those ED commercials are all too willing to point out. So bacon could ruin your sex life.
(And when I say high in salt, I mean that when I order a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich at McD, it includes my recommended salt allowance for the entire day.)

...because I couldn't have sex with a man who won't eat bacon.

Woo Hoo!
I'm glad you liked the site!
I love the dialog that Peace Through Pork has created. What started out as mostly just fun has turned into something a really believe in that brings people to me to discuss the innermost motivations that we have.
I'm putting together a "Friends of Peace Through Pork" page on my site, I'd love to count Slashfood.com amongst them.
Devi, I'm glad you took the time to understand.
Chef JoAnna, I think I love you.

I wish Bacon was the answer to all our problems. Can you imagine Bush and Saddam and Osama Bin Laden and Kim Jong-Il discussing world issues...over a nice Bacon breakfast?! If only it were that simple. As much as I want to justify my bacon bingeing issue...I don't think it's healthful and should not be recommended. In fact, if anything, Bacon should always be taken in moderation. Very tasty...but too oily.

If bacon is used properly, that use could help create peace here in the US. Since the only real fear that a large percentage of our potential enemies and terrorist have is to become unclean. In this condition, they would not be permitted to enter into their Heaven or Paradise should they die. Coming into contact in any way with pig or pork products would absolutely make them unclean. Since nobody can really identify who the terrorists are, you could start including small amounts of pig byproducts in the manufacturing of ammunition and make it known that every armed citizen, every law enforcement agent and every military person may or may not be using ammo that has pork products in it. Then you could probably figure out who the terrorist were by their rapid exit from America. After all the desire to commit some act of terror could result in the possibility of being wounded from a weapon that may or may not have pig bullets in it. Being shot or wounded by a pig bullet would be their biggest fear. The possibility of dying unclean would be totally unacceptable. If all this is true, then this use of pork could create less fear and more peace in America.
Just a thought
