I love lobster. I'm not unusual in this and many others do as well, but not everyone. I think that it is a love/hate food and you immediately know which side of the fence you are on. Last month I was in mid-coast Maine on vacation. I love the area, visit there several times a year, and am planning on moving there in the next few years. Maine is known for lobster, so of course that's what we had to have for dinner.
I went to my favorite lobster purveyor, Jeff of the Oyster River Lobster Company, to pick up a half dozen or so for dinner for me and my guest. As I was grubbing around in the tank helping myself to the big bugs I saw a flash of brilliant blue. Jeff's son, Josh, ran over to help me out and brought out a living jewel, Mr. Blu Genes (see pic). It was an unusual and very rare blue lobster that they were keeping as a mascot. Blue lobsters are found only once in a blue moon, actually the odds are even greater than that. Only one in 3-4 million lobsters are blue, they are even more rare than calico lobsters, but not as rare as a live red/orange lobster, the albino, yellow or the elusive two-tone lobster. My buddy and I played around with the cute little guy for awhile, posing and taking pics, before returning him to his tank.
Then we headed back home with his cousins for a feast of steamed, grilled, caked and chowdered crustaceans to carry us over for a day or two. If you would like to check out some more cool lobster pics you can always go to the U of Maine lobster of the month page for more tasty looking, interesting and weird, deep sea creepy crawlies.

No one finds this amusing, but how else would you like them to have to die? And since when were humans considered 'animals'?
Just don't think about it.. Heh.

People----the lobster MUST be cooked live because if you don't toxins will be released if it was dead prior to cooking. also for all you non meat eaters have you ever thought you are killing all those vegtables you're eating, they are living things as well, they need oxygen to live like any other being. Think about that when you are hugging your next tree.

I say everyone who enjoys eating these crustaceans will get exactly what they deserve in the long term, irregardless of how the deed is done and whose hand slayed the beast. Clearly you are what you eat and crustaceans are the garbage collectors of the sea. Same as eating a buzzard in some states... doesn't matter if they are blue. ; )

As well as shrimp and crabs and all the other stuff in the sea GOD put here for HUMANS. Certain people need to step down from their self-made thrones and realize that some animals were put here on earth for humans. That doesnt mean they should be treated badly or abused, I love animals. BUT let face crustations are the cockroaches of the ocean!

First of all, it doesn't hurt the lobsters to cook them and they don't scream. That sound you hear that sounds like screaming is just steam escaping from within their shell. Also, it doesn't take 15 minutes to "kill" lobsters. Lobsters are dead within the first minute of being boiled, and the whole process takes about 8-10 minutes. Now I'm hungry for some seafood.

In most instances when kept in a tank....they will die! After watching these cruel events in restaurants I bought several live ones and released them into the ocean. Killing them in boiling water is like burning humans in fires. I see nothing amusing when stupid people say stupid remarks. I only see that there are many uneducated people who need to learn some respect for nature and for others. These creatures are headed for extinction in the next 40 years according to the news (November 3, 2006)on tv.
Less and less fish, crab, oysters and clams are being
harvested.
"Fools names, and fools faces are always seen in public places" Not to mention...one is judged according to his works in life, and things come back and haunt them....it's just a matter of time!

Real New Englanders put them in a pot with only a 1 inch of salty water and then turn the heat on as the water becomes steam the lobsters go to sleep and the meat stays sweet. Enjoy with butter and corn on the cobb.
