GroupRecipes is a website about people, food, recipes and bringing those elements together. It is an interactive space where you can read, write and rate recipes, build your own personal page and meet (virtually, anyway) other foodies. Eventually, as the community grows, it could evolve into being some kind of hybrid between myspace or another social-networking site and allrecipes, with a group blog and a common interest in food binding everything together.
At the moment, the recipes are one of the sites biggest draws - though judging from some of the profiles already up on the site, there are a number of interesting people already using it - and the ways in which recipes can be tagged is particularly interesting. Not only can they be identified by category (e.g. "cookies" or "breakfast"), but by flavor, as well, so if you are in the mood for nutmeg, you'll be able to find something to satisfy your craving.
One of my favorite discoveries so far is a recipe for Oatmeal Cookie Granola, but I'm still exploring the site myself. Check it out if you have the chance. I suspect that it's going to be a hit.

Oh this is very nifty. The way the food is indexed is very novel. I've been messing around with the explore section for about an hour now. And the tv shows are pretty professional no? I would be a bit intimidated to put my own up, but I could see myself writing a column. Thumbs up.

I think the "food exploration" angle is interesting. It really isn't trying to be a full blown recipe site, but it is in a sense. The feature set is pretty amazing and once the site grows I could see this as a very useful resource.

I'm not into general myspace-style "social networking" perse, but I think since this is a community centered around foodies, I would use it. But then again who has the time to maintain an online life when I can hardly keep my real one together? At the very least, as others mentioned, there are some very top-drawer features here. Man I wish I didn't have a job so I could lounge around all day looking at (and eating) beautiful food. :(

Justin,
Why not do what I do and just spend your workday looking at sites like this? I've gotten really fast at the ALT+TAB to switch windows really fast in case somebody walks by the old cubicle. Lol. Productivity at its best.

Wow! Thanks for informing us about this. I would love to have the recipe for that oatmeak cookie granola too! I am a sucker for granola bars - and even more so for oatmeal cookies. This is an interesting way to meet
people. I'm sure we can learn lots of valuable kitchen tips from fellow foodies. This is pretty cool. A mysoace with a purpose. :)

Have you looked at BakeSpace.com? It's more like MySpace where you can really customize your own areas and I've found that the way they socialize recipes is more interactive where you actually share recipes as opposed to just posting them. Well.. that's my 2 cents. I'm all for food sites that aren't connected to Yahoo or Martha Stewart so they are both good for the world as a whole. :)

There is another site (i think www.ifood.tv) that i have come across that also brings foodies together. But it seems to have a bigger focus thatn recipes. It is actually trying to bring people together to learn and share recipes and other food information about international and ethnic foods. They actually have full video recipes . There are some cool indian recipes and i saw an amazing video of this guy who is showing how to cut your beef for a steak at
