Would you normally use the word "cute" to describe a skull? Aside from "delicious", that is the only adjective that seems to apply to these Day of the Dead chocolate skulls from Vosges Chocolate. The skulls are made from white, milk and dark chocolate and have a variety of flavor combinations inspired by el Día de los Muertos. The skulls' black eyes are made with edible glitter, which gives them a surprising amount of depth for something on a 2-ounce chocolate skull! The flavors include:
- Blanca - Venezuelan white chocolate (33% cocoa butter)
- Red Fire - Ancho and chipotle chilies, Ceylon cinnamon, dark chocolate
- Barcelona - Hickory smoked almonds, grey sea salt, deep milk chocolate
The one thing that is scary about these skulls is the price. They sell for $8 each! Of course, when you're going to go all-out for a holiday celebration anyway, a little indulgence is warranted, right?

It's vosges, not vosages (you got the URL right, though).
Anyway, their chocolate is stellar. Well-tempered, with a great glossy look and that perfect snap. The flavor combinations tend to work extremely well.
$8 for 2oz is expensive, but for a once-a-quarter or once-a-month indulgence, it can't be beat.

I just recently discovered their ice cream! It is pricey on their website, but sells at my local store for $5.99 a pint. The Red Fire (with ancho chile and cinnamon) and the Naga (Sweet Indian Curry and Fresh Young Coconut in a creamy custard ice cream) are wonderful!

And for those in London, l'Artisan du Chocolat offers skulls that I think are even more enticing. (It would be great it someone decorated these skulls in the Mexican style, with bright colors, though.)

That's completely insane, here in México they sell similar skulls but a lot bigger, made from sugar and some of them from chocolate.
The price of one big skull (about 300 g or so) fluctuates around 2 bucks and they are delicious and they are decorated, even with your name in the front if you want. People also sell the "Dead's Bread" which has an orange sugared flavor, and it's great with a cup of hot chocolate.
