Jelly Belly buys Ben Myerson Candy

Hershey isn't the only one buying up candymakers this week. Jelly Belly has also bought Los Angles-based Ben Myerson Candy Co., makers of Christopher's Candy and Sunkist fruit gems. Now, when I think of Jelly Belly I think entirely of jelly beans -- though the company says that they make "over 100 different candies including chocolates, gummies, candy corn, taffy, and... jelly beans" I couldn't name another candy brand they produce. (Perhaps a down-side of having a jelly bean for their corporate logo.) This purchase, however, will provide them with some new candy types to think of when the name "Jelly Belly" comes up.

10-22-2006 @4:13PM cybele said... Jelly Belly's original company, Goelitz claim to fame has always been candy corn. Their Dutch mints are pretty awesome and their American version of licorice bridge mix is pretty cool too.

10-22-2006 @6:17PM Christina said... Yes, anyone who knows the company's long history will remember Goelitz's wide variety of products. They simply changed their name to match their most popular product a year or two ago. The packages always said Herman Goelitz or Goelitz on the pack and a visit to their site could bring up various confections.

Personally, I love their beans, candy corn, and raspberries & blackberries. I'm also a fan of the Sunkist Fruit Gems. So this is a nice marriage.
