There are many people who use their rice cookers for making plain rice and nothing more. This is fine when you like a lot of plain rice, but if you want to get more use out of the machine, or at least expand your repertoire, The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook might be the best resource you can add to your library. The book has over 250 "no-fail" recipes for just about every rice dish you can think of, including risottos, puddings and pilafs, not to mention that it also has a wide variety of non-rice recipes that take advantage of the machine's cooking capabilities. And there is nothing that we like more than an appliance that multi-tasks.
Since it is a book about a type of appliance, the first thing that it covers is some basic information on the different kinds of rice cookers and how they are used. After that, it dives into the recipes, which include Asparagus and Mushroom Risotto, Salmon Stuffed Japanese Rice Balls, Corn and Black Bean Tamales, Hummus and Maple Cinnamon Rice Pudding. Even if you don't like all the recipes, there are sure to be at least a few that you enjoy and trying some new techniques could help you get more mileage out of the cooker in the long run.

I have the book and I really like it. Many stove top rice dishes are so much easier in the rice cooker. I can definitely recommend it.

I've found that one thing that's really easy to make in a rice cooker but a pain in the neck to make otherwise is steel-cut oats. Put a cup of oats in with 4 cups water, a chopped apple or two, cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg and a splash of vanilla extract, and turn that puppy on. When it's done stir in some maple syrup or brown sugar, and milk if you like (ice if you just can't wait)... if you aren't sharing, the leftovers can be reheated and eaten over the next day or two (or for lunch!). I rig mine up to a plug-in timer to start cooking 1 to 1.5 hrs before I wake up in the morning. The smell is enough to wake me up. Good and good for you!

Like others, above, I have this book and like it a lot. I can recommend the gorgonzola polenta.

I bought this book a couple months ago and it's amazing. With a few modifications the recipes work perfectly with my 3 cup Zojurishi cooker and it has given me so many amazing ideas that I never would have thought of myself.
Anyone who has a rice cooker needs this book. It's an awesome companion to those magical Japanese machines.

Thannks for the tip. I have just bought a rice cooker, and while it does make excellent rice, I was wondering about its "flavor rice" option. Like a fuzzy logic crock pot!
