It seems a little late for a company to suddenly be jumping on the low-carb bandwagon (at least, I haven't previously noticed it in my area), but that's pretty much what Heinz has done with their one-carb Reduced Sugar Ketchup. The ketchup has 75% less sugar than their regular ketchup and 2/3 fewer calories. Since it is being marketed as a healthier alternative to regular ketchup, the company notes that it still has plenty of heart-healthy lycopene from tomatoes in it, so anyone who switches to it won't be missing out.
Frankly, it's hard to imagine that a low carb ketchup will really stand up to regular ketchup, let alone to Organic Heinz, and because you don't generally consume ketchup by the cupful, how harmful could a few extra grams of sugar be? They're probably not has unhealthy as the French fries or other food that is being served with the ketchup in the first place.

By the way, it's not so much the sugar I object to, though I do avoid sugar if I can, it's that ketchup is made with high-fructose corn syrup. Many nutritionists believe that high-fructose corn syrup is not healthful, so I do my best to avoid all foods with this ingredient.

2) It tastes just as good as regular Heinz to me .. all they're doing is replacing High Fructose Corn Syrup with Splenda
3) A tablespoon of regular Heinz has around 6 grams of sugar if I recall .. most people have more than just a tablespoon of ketchup, so it adds up quickly
4) I use ketchup on way more things than just french fries, and having one that's nearly sugar and calorie free and still tastes great is a god send.
This isn't just a healthy product for low-carbers, but for anyone

They tout that it is "natural" because it's made from sugar, but the processing it undergoes makes it a completely artificial substance that your body does not like. If you can't handle no-sugar ketchups, at least look for a brand that uses just plain old sugar. Check out mercola.com for a whole lot of solid information about Splenda.

Finally I had a no sugar ketchup that actually tasted like ketchup. Then lo and behold, it's no longer available at Ralphs. I guess it didn't do too well? I really liked it. I'm surprised to hear that it has been out for awhile in some markets. I wish they'd bring it back. Now I have to buy it online for twice the price.
