We all know what the evil foods are. Stuff like candy, salty snacks, mayo, sour cream, soda. But there are some so-called "unhealthy" foods that just might be good for you.
According to Men's Health mag, foods like sour cream, chocolate, and booze can actually be good for you. We know that chocolate contains a lot of stuff that can be healthy (especially dark chocolate, the more cocoa the better) and we know that red wine has important antioxidants. But what about stuff like pork rinds and sour cream? Well, pork rinds have zero carbs, tons of protein, and while they have around 9 grams of fat per serving, that's still less than potato chips. And sour cream? While the percentage of fat per serving is high, the total isn't, and most have less fat than you'll get drinking an 8 ounce glass of 2% milk.
Of course, no one's saying to base your eating habits and all your meals around pork rinds and sour cream, but it's probably best not to eliminate so-called "bad" foods from your diet and to keep an open mind about your diet and how to eat things in moderation.

I can hear cardiologists everywhere laughing their behinds off, sitting back for the next decade or two just waiting for all the angioplasties they'll be doing on all of these fad Atkins diet people. We've known for years that saturated fat is terrible for you. What's next? Promoting trans fats?

It has been proven that pigs have shown intelligence roughly the same level as shown by a three year old child. Think about that as you grind up their skin in your mouth. Why not just fry up some toddler skin? Yummy.

Many of our foods were dicovered this way because nothing was wasted on the farm. I can remember when there weren't any supermarkets.

To the second - I don't believe rendered down pig skin is as nasty as chicken skin. I eat the pig skin, but not the chicken.

they taste great. There are so few crunchy delicious things I can snack on and eat that are carb free, makes pork rinds my favorite snack.

Pork rinds would be ok in moderation IF they weren't fryed in hydrogenated oil (or any oil that spoils with heat, like vegetable oil). And yes, they can be terribly bad for you if you are salt sensitive or have clogging arteries, since they are made from (and with) saturated fat. On the Atkins diet eating the natural form of pork rinds (not fryed in Hydrogenated oil, and no additives) would be ok because on that diet you are using them to assist in keeping you in ketosis. During ketosis you probably will not get any form of heart or artery disease from eating pig in any form. For anyone eating lots of carbs and eating pig rinds, you will get accelerated athrosclerosis. And everyone eating them will be at risk for certain disease processes if the rinds contain the kind of "food" additives that they usually contain. Read the ingredients, and buyer beware.
